Yesterday I tried for a long time on the phone trying to speak to an advisor at MCE Insurance, with a view to changing cover from one bike to another. On hold for very loooong time.
    Tried again today....same long hold.
Tried live chat....no one available to chat!
Anyone else having difficulty making contact?
12 months ago someone in the motorcycle trade advised against insuring with MCE.
For me (Old git) they are by far the cheapest, but, if you change any details mid term they really stiff you.
Might be easier to just start a new online policy?
    Cheers,Ken.

I can't comment on MCE but my other half got stupid quotes from some insurers recently as a new rider on a Street Triple 675. Bikesure were hundreds less than her existing insurer.

I find it interesting that ‘The Meerkat’ has been fined for their operating methods.
I have noticed in the past, it depends which compare company you use, who you get or don’t get quotes from.
Few weeks ago I compared quotes for an 1200cc bike. Carole Nash were cheapest which surprised me and I went with them.
Today, I used a different compare company (1200cc bike) and Carole Nash were one of the companies that chose not to quote.
When I have more time I will try a different compare company and see if I get different results.
    Ken.

I am in the midst of a re-insurance nightmare having lost 6 months towards another years no claims as the underwriter wouldn't cover an additional bike with business mileage which meant a new policy mid term (very annoying).

I've tried a number of comparison sites and then brokers followed by independent insurers. I will try MCE but they didn't come up on 3 comparison sites using Money Saving expert for info:

    https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/motorbike-insurance/

LV have been by the far the best in terms of customer service (on the sales call) and an adaptable multi bike policy where you can actually state the cover you want, excess and mileage on each bike as opposed to an all compassing (and more expensive) one policy for all. They are their own broker so don't hammer you for the change fees and seem pretty reasonable on the different scenarios I've put (as may need to change mid term due to work & COVID).

I was quoted £131 (TPFT) by MCE; Next nearest for same cover was £361.
As has been said, MCE seem to sting you for any changes mid term.
    Cheers, Ken.

Cheers only just seen this and went direct to MCE as were by far the cheapest for multi bike and actually distinguish between business and commuting miles. Business miles being the one you get hammered for if you are only making a few trips locally from your place of work (most policies take the total for the year as business miles).

I got 29999 miles for the same price as 12000 (when I increased it on the site) commuting wise so all covered when COVID has us back out again.

MSE also recognised my car port which probably knocks it down. Thanks @Kenbro for reminding me about them.

I've also been sat in call centre queues earlier this week for bike ins. I insured the Z in June for £203 FC on a multibike policy and added the new SC 2 weeks later for £56. The Berg is due in a couple of weeks so naturally I inquired about adding it to the MB policy on TPFT cover and they wanted over £100 for the remaining 7 months the policy has to run! It's the oldest bike, lowest value and has the lowest use limit, it makes no sense! I ended up insuring the Berg on it's own policy for £55 TPFT. I then noticed that I'd agreed to a 5K mile limit on the SS but it's at almost 4K already so I asked, "what happens if you exceed your yearly mileage limit?". You can probably guess the answer, "your insurance would not pay out sir". I could have an accident at 4999m and be covered but two miles down the road I would not be so I had to fork out another £72 to increase the limit to 9999m. WHAT A CROCK OF SH*T.

Time consuming but could of been worth comparing on a new quote taking in to account the cancelation fee. You'd lose some of your time built up for anothers years no claims (as I did). I was promised 24 hours to compare policies with no cancelation fee because I had to take a new one. The company (Bennetts) are now trying to go back on this as I have moved to MCE!

I've noticed MCE hammer you for any change to the documents (even if you change jobs), the excess is also £450 or £550! Probably why they are cheaper than the others.

Bikesure usually gets a favourable mention whenever the subject of insurance pops up. I've been with them for 3 years. My 3 bikes are insured (FComp of course, no point having anything else), with my price estimate for each one (I know they might haggle if it comes to it) and a long list of accessories (none of which made any difference to the cost). Last year it was £230, this year it's gone up £15. I'm happy with that. It saves the tedious job of phoning companies and going through the mind-numbing process necessary to get a reasonable quote.
During my first year with Bikesure I had agreed valuation (requiring 4 photos of each bike), which added about £90, but I dropped that in year 2.

Oh, and as I've mentioned before, members of MAG get a discount (so join!).

My excess is £100 and I've limited myself to 1000 miles per year, per bike.

I was with Bennetts last year for the Berg but it went up 30% for no reason I could see and they couldn't match a new quote from Carole Nash.

From my limited knowledge and some experience your valuation is fairly irrelevant and comes down to a number of factors at the time of the claim such as condition, current market value and the price of comparable bikes in the area. The insurance company employ a valuer (for want of a better word) to discuss with you at the time of claim and get the full details.

I was able to push mine higher with evidence (photos of my bikes condition & local comparable adverts) as the value had gone up and no others were available locally in the same condition/mileage.

I agree with you that 'my price estimate' will probably be debated if I ever make a claim, although I have slightly underestimated the value of my two 30 year old Hondas, which seem to creep up year on year (both 400's NC35 & NC29), so they shouldn't be able drop my estimate by much if any.

However the 'Agreed valuation' is just that. If I'd needed to claim I would have got exactly what we'd agreed on.
