    Hi Folks,

I'm a relatively new Tiger owner and looking to add some luggage to the bike. Question, should I go with side panniers first or a top box if I don't want to do both out of the gate?

Also any suggestions about the boxes themselves, I am considering aluminum (Triump of Givi) vs alternatives soft bags?

    Thanks in advance....

Hi, I had a Tiger 800 previously with aluminium panniers bit no topbox.
Advantages - secure, large capacity, waterproof, protects the bike when you drop it.
Disadvantages - can't fit a helmet in them, hindrance to filtering.
Now have a 900GT Pro with topbox only.
Advantages- can fit a helmet in!

I believe the Triumph and Givi aluminium boxes are identical all bar the branding. So if you go down that route, buy the cheapest one.

A few wants vs needs when I chose my luggage. I'm wanting to make the 900 Rally Pro more utilitarian. I'm an older, big guy so my way of mounting and dismounting is, stand down, left foot on peg, swing right leg up & around. A top box would stop me from doing that since the knees aren't so cooperative anymore. I order the 38L/45L Touratech EVO's. The 48L will hold the helmet when needed. Also from many years as an avid cyclist I know how important it is to keep as much weight as low as possible for added stability. The boxes arrive in two days. The Touratech's have replaceable bumpers, latches etc. which is a plus. As for the luggage width for filtering.... I would personally never do it (U.S.A.). If I'm in an area where the traffic is that bad, I'm getting out of there.
