Yes you've read correctly it does say koi pond, absolutely nothing to do with bikes!

So ive inherited this pond from the previous owner when i moved in about 15 years ago.
Bottom drain 4,000 gallon pond, stocked with koi, rudd, carp, orf, gold fish, a out 70 in total at last count.

Few years back it started leaking so I thought it was the liner, replaced at a considerable expense, and now it's leaking again.

Its either the pipe underground going to the filter or the filter drain outlets, anyone know how I could somehow line the underground pipe without digging up?

Also if anyone has a keen interest in koi keeping I'd sell the whole lot.

That is quite a considerable setup there
Unfortunately I only have a small pond in my garden and looking for a couple of small fish
I hope you find the solution quickly, that is a fair few thousand £ in fish there!

Abandon the subterranean pipework and plumb onto the surface hiding with foliage etc.
Leaks easier to locate that way perhaps?

A stupid setup, didnt think about what if! The pond was empty when I moved in, started stocking up with fish over the years but now more a pain in the back side.

Curly, yes i was thinking that, means running another pump in the pond and sealing up the hole so still considerable work. May have to dig it up and renew..the filter is sunk into the ground too, so its level with the pond.

Currently losing about 2 inches a night, seems to settle after a foot, so maybe pressure related leak

Yes, ponds do become a millstone, given time.
We had one for years, filter cleaning etc, was vile, the stench was horrific and in the end the prospect of spending one full day on annual maintenance swung it for me.
Fish rehoused and pond filled in.
One day is nothing I agree, but a job like that was up there, or is that down there, with tax returns.
It sounds like you have a problem which ever way you look at it, time and money required what ever you choose to do Moe, unfortunately.

:joy::joy::joy::joy: tax returns I do for a living!!

Yes unfortunately, when it was working its really nice but soon as it leaks its a downhill. one day isn't bad, I'm at once a month cleaning out the muck.

Its easy to buy the fish but now got nowhere to rehome...one of the carp is at least 25 years old!

If its loosing water and then stops its a leak in the liner at that level, you can get harmless dies to put in the water that will reveal where the leak is,
If it was the bottom drain pipework is would just keep leaking until empty,
The drain pipe work should be pretty tuff but it can happen, i have just had a minor pond disaster see (pond panic) glad i had a submersible pump rather than a bottom drain otherwise the pond would empty and kill all the fish.

thats what I thought it was 3 yrs ago and spent 600 replacing the liner, but its not. The level drops quickly at first then slows down. Just rode up to my 2 local pond shops...both closed down!

Are you sure it not the filter system that's leaking that may also account for a drop in level and then stabilize.

Can't see any coming from the main unit, its a beast of a thing..theres a further soak away tank under the filter. Going to dig around the drain pipe coming from the pond tm and see how far down it goes..then shore up the sides around it.

Thanks guys, think I've found one leak, coming form the return pipe to the pond...i was sitting in the hole with the filter and turn the pump on, saw a trickle of water..thought it was from the tap hose pipe..nope coming from the return pipe. Will run a new line tm.
Lost track of time riding my blade today!! Love it!!

The other thing im going to do is dig around the outlet pipe..might be a leak the the elbow joint.
