Hi, Triumphs started out in my genes, now they are in my jeans! My dad had a sprung hub '54 Tiger 100 which he used to commute 20 miles each way, every day come hell, high water or deep snow to his job as a shunter on the GWR. Eventually we moved so dad was only a couple of miles from work and then mum used to take me up to the station to meet him at the end of his shift and he always got the engine drivers to give me a ride up the yard on the footplate.....and it was still steam in those days......and being only 2 years old I was at eye level with the firebox......scarey and hot!.....but fabulous memories now...That bike was the only transport for the family so when we all went out, I sat on a cushion which was tied with string to the rack on the petrol tank whilst holding the centre of the handlebars while mum was snuggled up on the pillion keeping his back warm! Sadly dad and the Tiger 100 are gone but I started riding Triumphs when I bought the first model Speed Triple back in '98.....Oh how I regret selling that bike. Now I have just sold my 2012 Tiger 800 XC, (a great bike bought with my head) for a Thruxton 1200 (a fantastic bike bought with my heart) It is a self indulgent retirement present to myself which I will try and wear out before having to call in to the 'Pearly Gates bike shop' for that final service! Cheers, dickydido
Welcome in from fellow OAP (almost), nice bike, posting a photo is mandatory, often ride up into Wiltshire, some bits have good roads if you avoid Swindon area
.....thanks every one for the welcome, ......already been whizzing around the Forum checking out the recommendations and good ideas and have already spent £50 on ordering a front wheel clamp thingy so I can get the Thruxton up on the paddock stand single handed without having to drag Mrs dickydido away from 'Call of Duty' to lend a steadying hand.......it'll be here Saturday.......she'll be pleased Cheers, dickydido Cheers, dickydido
Welcome, judging by your intro I am sure you will fit in here nicely. Have to say for me the best bike of the bunch you had was def the mk1 Speedie but I am sure the Thrux will do the job very nicely indeed.
