Hello all, first things first, I am Triumph through and through and that will never change. I have been offered a 1997 Kawasaki GPZ 500 which is only 13000mls and only £1000 it looks ok and she will properly sit in the garage most of the time, However reviews are that they were just cheap hacks and that's it, just wondering if any of our members have any experiences of them.

It would sure be nice to have something like that to tinker about with! And it'll likely never loose any money should you decide to sell it on in the future, possibly even make a few quid on.

There are two light - medium bikes which I think are truly sufficient for just about everything you might need in a bike. The Honda CB500 of the late 1990s is one , and the Kawasaki GPZ500 of the same period is the other.. They are sturdy , cheap to run , easy to look after and good fun too. I have a CB (to partner my Tiger) , but would have just as easily bought the Kawasaki if it had come along first. Both are excellent bikes and just about immortal with normal maintenance. As an aside , the Suzuki GS500 which was supposed to compete with them was a very sad affair by comparison.

Yes a cracking little bike lovely to ride, light and easy to manouver.
The only downside is that, as far as I can remember the downpipes are mild steel and are prone to rot. Many bikes were fitted with a Nexxus system with stainless down pipes and a 2 into one system.

At £1000 I would think a bargain and you should be able to sell that on at a profit in the future or at least you won't lose any money!

The GPZ 500 was the less boring 500 in it's category at the time. Sturdy, very capable engine. low maintenance cost.
I was close to buy one after my driving license in 88

The go to sporty twin before the SV came out. IIRC the early versions had a 16" front. Earlier the better before they started "softening" it out with the bigger front wheel, bigger fairying, twin discs etc. (I nearly bought one back in the day)
