When I am on the road I use a "SnapJack" from Tiroxco.com to get my rear tire of the ground to check chain and lube. You put down your side stand and push the SnapJack under the right-rear swing arm and give it a good kick with your foot. Your tire pops of the ground with enough room to spin your tire, adjust and lube. Its adjustable, compact and light. It packs inside my right, side cover bag along with my tool kit and squeeze bottle of lube (old school ya know). I think I paid 30-50 US Dollars for it . Its worth it.
In my day chain adjustment was done with the weight of the bike on it as there was never going to be negative weight ....unless you enter the TT and chain lube the same with a mate to push the bike forward if you where lucky...and non O ring chains where taken off once very couple of months for a nice bath and fixing a flat at the side of the road was not unheard of.
I made one out of a length of alloy tubing with a notch at one end to fit the swing arm bobbin. Also made it so it breaks into two pieces for storage; cut in half with a short piece of sleeve fixed on one piece so they join nicely.
That is pretty neat. Sure beats my method of one handedly balancing the weight of the bike on the side stand and trying to spin, spray, spin, spray. It must be hilarious to watch to be fair.
Jeepster - how safe does it feel when it's up on the stand? I've seen a few videos of it - it looks useful, but I thought it looked a bit fragile. Beerman
