Myself and a few mates are planning (I use that term loosely!) a trip down to lake garda next year.
Has anyone done a similar trip before?
I'm looking for advice as to the best route, how many days it's likely to take etc.
We have no experience of touring on bikes!
We're also looking at the option of getting the ferry to Bilbao and riding the cote d'azur to garda, then up through Switzerland home.
But may just go with the straight down, straight back up, option.

This is the trip did in Sept 2017. I've split it up into several maps so you can see the distances and time involved.

    First Day :
    https://www.google.fr/maps/dir/3+Av...36!2m2!1d4.805528!2d43.949317!3e0?hl=en&hl=en

Then the next day along the south coast and into Italy:

    https://www.google.fr/maps/dir/Avig...!2m2!1d7.9104915!2d44.1482868!3e0?hl=en&hl=en

This is the hotel where we stayed for 3 nights - fantastic people/food/wine/value see attached pdf.

Then on via this route to Chambéry :

    https://www.google.fr/maps/dir/Orme...9c!2m2!1d5.917781!2d45.564601!3e0?hl=en&hl=en

The following day returned home to Aigurande via this route :

    https://www.google.fr/maps/dir/Aost...a1!2m2!1d1.828597!2d46.434011!3e0?hl=en&hl=en

In total we spent about 110 euros each (3 of us) on hotels; 140€ on dinners/drink. Total for our trip was roughly 2500 kms.

It was a brilliant trip full of biker bollocks, art and culture, beautiful food and people. I'm going back to Italy again next year !!!

    Hope that helps...........................

    Cool, thank you.
I think we're set on getting the boat and starting in Bilbao. I'll look into the N-260.
We know the lake quite well, it's the getting there by bike which is unknown, but you may just of solved the issue!

It's at least a starting point for you to judge the distances involved. France is a BIG country !!!
