I know some of you have fitted windscreens to your 2016 / 2017 model year Speed Triples and I am seeking feedback, please. Went for a full on boom ride just now and my helmet face-shield is nearly impossible to see through and this after only 40 miles of, "testing at speed". Wondering if those who fitted a windscreen are catching less loser bugs on their face-shield and instead slaughtering them with the windscreen? Thoughts on what works, what does not work? EDIT to add - I will not mount one of those monstrosities that are akin to a Roman Gladiator's shield.....thanks. CHEERS, Chris
I think tear offs on the visor would be a better solution, even on big touring bikes it's hard to keep your head out of the airstream. Most screens on the speed triple are way too low to deflect bugs from the helmet.
Sorry, but moaning about the heat and bugs 'aint going to get you much sympathy on here. Cold and wet in the UK
Alright, I left the gate open on that one and the lot of you drove a truck through it, lol. Not moaning at all, just the fugging bugs are big yellow snot filled dispensers. Spring is in the air as are the bugs. I am hearing there is not a solution on market. Think I'll pack a small bottle of cleaner & a microfiber rag on board. Almost easier than messing with tear offs I guess. Thanks all, sorry your weather is currently sucking. Each clime seems to have negatives. I shall piss about the 113 degree shite come June, lol.
Carry a damp chammy leather (wash leather? - two nations divided by a common language) in a plastic food/freezer bag and use it to clean off the little bug(ger)s as and when necessary. Works for me!
i did this route a few years back and in Death Valley it was something like 130f..just a bit too warm for me ..would love to do it again though
Great idea on the screen cleaner and cloth, i keep one under the seat cowl and use it on a rollie break
Fantastic route probably wrong time of year. I would have gone up and back in the Sierra and skipped Los Angeles and most of CA due to traffic. The roads up in Utah are absurd fun as well up around Vermillion Cliffs. The timing on desert adventures is critical due to sudden flooding during monsoon and then that absolutely desiccating heat. Spring is best but it is coming on hot with another record of 96 degrees F. on last day of Winter.
No doubt as you have more real estate up there . I was quite taken with the roads of Northumberland and absolutely want to cross the border to ride in Scotland. The roads on IOM and up your way remind me of the roads I grew up riding back in New Hampshire. Back before radar was a traffic tool, before Mr. Plod took to using aircraft and radio reception was still sketchy in the hills....BIG SMILE.
Thank-you Andy it is a 2012 C6 3LT wide body GS that I bought with only 25,000 miles on it. I upgraded the Z51 suspension, brakes and exhaust, using modified A6 transmission with paddle shifter. Relocated battery to passenger side rear. Roof panel is removable. Dyno'd a tad over 500 HP at rear tires. It is a great road course car and easily overpowers the traction control. The desert is a fun playground for a big V8 two seater with this kind of power to weight ratio. That said I'd give my right nut for a V-12 Aston or Bently .
we picked the bikes up and dropped them back off in LA and it was pretty busy getting in and out, but it didn't seem to take long to get out on to quieter roads,i do like the heat (probably because we don't get enough in Scotland!) the majority of the time it was about 90f-100f which i thought was great, but that day in and around Death Valley was something else..just like riding through a giant hairdryer..i was advised to soak my t shirt and keep my jacket on as that way you are cooler and it did do the trick ! before that we would stop and the guy in the back up van would spray us all with water but 1 minute later we were totally dry i would recommend anyone thinking of doing a road trip in America to head over to the west..just like in this country west is best!..although the blue ridge mountains in the east looks really good
In the summer here I take out one of those 'V' sponges. Really good, you just wet them, put it in the little plastic pouch and you can give your visor a wipe when you stop/traffic lights etc. Small too so you dont notice it in your pocket.
^^couple of more months n all we will be doing is.......burning some rubbers n cleaning the bugs. I sincerely hope. Knowing our luck we will be seeing our own reflection on the road than the bloody tarmac. we should change our passion from bikes to boats .
As for the solution. As others have said I carry a microfibre cloth with visor cleaner. And I wear a zipped (not metal) hoddie on top of my leather jacket to avoid damage from excessive bug splatter.
