Afternoon folks, just joined on Saturday after placing an order for a new street triple R that I'm collecting a week Sunday. If I've put this in the wrong section then I'm sorry.

I've been shopping around for insurance quotes and as a fairly new rider I didn't expect to get it cheap but I didn't expect the quotes I've been given.

I'm 38 passed my test December 2016 and got my first bike a Suzuki sv650 march 2017 now got 2yr no claims and am paying £190 a year for that with £250 voluntary excess. With same options on the street triple I'm getting the cheapest at £460. With triumph insurance quoting £580

I've seen a few posts from brand new riders saying that their street triples are their first bikes, is your insurance quotes anything like mine?

Have you read up on some of the guides for insurance shopping and how best to buy what you actually need while minimising your outlay?

You have jumped from Group 9 bike (of 17) to Group 13 which will be a fairly significant factor given your limited NCD. You can also find buying insurance on short notice I.e. next week is more expensive than next month - just part of reeling you in when you seem in a hurry.

Try a few comparison sites AND ring direct. It is worth shopping around.

I knew it would go up, I'm just a bit surprised how much it went up by. I've done so much searching that I'm just going to pay the £460.

Thanks for the reply, that what I did. I've cancelled with my current provider. I thought it would go up by about £80-£90 just a bit surprised by the jump but so be it. I've got the bike I wanted for years so no point overthinking it. Just want to get it and enjoy it.

I’ve just had a renewal from my current insurer Bennetts so thought I’d do some searching for a better deal, plus I wanted to make it into a multibike policy so I can have the Beemer and the Triumph together.
It was £189 last year just for the Beemer and after some searching, on comparison sites and calling a couple of companies, I’ve managed to get both on one policy for £219.....with Bennetts again. :grinning:
I didn’t think that was too bad really, not like Carole Nash who quoted £920 for both!

So my STRS insurance was up for renewal and Bennetts quoted £203.
Shopped around and bottom quote was £160 - online comparison site.
Being wise to insurance companies deviousness over the years i was definitely of the opinion that i was comparing apples, oranges and bananas  and so needed to speak to a human being.
I took the 765 for service at the main dealers due to warranty and there was an insurance flyer (Triumph specialist ) there so i noted it and rang once home; it was Adrian Flux in disguise.
    First quote £208
    Nah
    Second quote £175
Ok I'll go with that as all? the details appeared the same...... read on!
Card out and about to pay when the helpful chap states he needs to read off the legal terms etc that the policy would operate under.
    Yawn yawn yawn :relieved::relieved::relieved:
    HANG ON!
Can i just stop you there and ask you to repeat the last point?

The policy will operate under a garage clause of 24/7.

Ok can you explain that further please as my previous policy was 22:00 - 06:00?

Well basically sir when the vehicle is at your home address it will be kept in the garage.

    What 24hrs a day?

    Well yes!

So just for example, i nip out to the shops and go back home for dinner knowing im off out later on, can i leave the bike on my drive (insured) whilst i eat my dinner?

Err well sir thats hard for me to answer as im not in claims but the new policy department.
:)joy::joy::joy: Where do they get these lines from?)

Err not really the answer is yes or no?

Well i suppose the answer is you wouldn't be insured for theft in your example.

So by the sound of it your policy offered is totally inadequate and impractical and so is a waste of money rather than a £30 saving, thank you for your time and going through the specific detail. Goodbye.

That does not surprise me in the least. They expect the customer to have impeccable morals and integrity whilst they themselves attempt to hold the moral high ground with gutter morals. None of them are trustworthy.

From my experience over the past few years with insurance companies, it does not just have to be in the garage, but any security devices (disc locks etc) need to be fitted and the garage locked. WTF is that all about....

Hi Mate & Welcome to the Forum
Insurance is a bitch, as soon as you get full no claims make sure you protect it, it has saved me a lot of money down the years.

Absolute scammers, ALL insurance companies just want money to go in one direction!

    Fully legally supported robbery.
