I noticed since fitting a voltmeter that my speed triple appears to have a pretty pitiful charging system. Whilst stuck in traffic at idle the battery was receiving around 12.2v and with decent revs just over 13v. It seems that the the DC current leaving the rectifier will feed into the loom feeding lights, etc before been pumped into the battery. At this point the voltage has dropped.

So the other day I patched in a live wire with a fuse connected to the two brown wires leaving the rectifier straight into the battery. I also did the same from the negative wires into the negative of the battery. Now the battery gets a feed straight from the rectifier. At idle when warm I'm getting around 13.3v and at decent revs over 14v. Pretty much a full volt more with no negative effect on the ancillaries also needing their share of DC current. A simple and effect mod.

Sounds like a reg/rec problem to me .... not uncommon! (Ask me how I know this! '02 Daytona is a clue!).

Apparently these low voltages are the norm. Found the mod on another Triumph forum and it's quite a common mod in improving the voltage to the battery. I will however Steve run some checks on the rectifier just to be sure.
