Hi, just nipped out on my TBS 900, and it was missing like a good 'un at low revs, not ticking over, cutting out... but off like a scalded cat above 50/60mph...ton no problem.. I'm guessing this is probably slow running jet/s partially blocked... Anybody concur or other suggestion.? . Fuel may have gone stale, but she still romps at higher revs..
If it's been sat for any length of time with unleaded (E5 or E10) fuel in it then it's highly likely that the pilot jets will be blocked by a hardened deposit of ethanol. It's very difficult to remove - even ultrasonic cleaning (which is the only realistic way of doing it without trying to poke something through the hole!) can sometimes fail to clear it. The only certain cure is new pilot jets and an ultrasonic clean of the carbs anyway.
Thanks adie p, bike was last used in October, and been started several times since.. I've got some replacement jets, 42's instead of 40's..(.supposed to be great improvement), I'm hoping that a clean with carb cleaner and blowing through with compressed air will be enough with new jets.. I did put two gallons of fuel in it from containers in shed... That won't have been there any longer than October, but plan to take that out of tank and replace with higher octane petrol . Cheers..
Stevehotshot Looks like you are sorted already. I put a stabilizer in my bike for the winter lay up and some leaded petrol. And like you said start and run every so often. Joe.
