That's really smart Terry, unfortunately I think it's an original part off a MUCH older bike - looks like 1950's style to me.

 

I think that’s an old nacelle that’s been modified

When I saw the photo the first thing that came to mind was ..... sorry about this ..... BMW.
Looked on google at BMW (sorry again!) R60/2 and there it was. Chrome headlight ring is a bit thicker and the idiot lights may not be accurate but the switch on the top looks a dead ringer.
Have a look and see what you think.

My own question now is, assuming my identification is correct ... what the hell am I doing recognising odd bits from (fairly) ancient German motorcycles?

Should I be worried??

If you want that style you can always buy the peak

 

looks a lot like 1970's Ural 650, which borrowed a lot from BMW.
may be able to find one that way?
