Currently run a ST 1050 and aSuzuki 600 Bandit through Winter. Both bikes were fitted with HID headlight bulbs which ran with a ballast. The one on the Bandit gave up the ghost the other day and H4 cheap ones no longer seem available and appear to have been superseded by straight forward plug and play bulbs . There are cheap ones then more expensive ones with fans on. Do I need to have one with a fan or not. The headlight shell on the Bandit is plastic and I was wondering about heat. The fan ones appear longer and not sure if they would fit.Anyone with any experience of either?

What about a LED replacement? I've put one in the Scrambler headlight (plastic shell) and I'm well pleased with it. It has a built in fan but is very compact.

That’s what I was thinking of doing, it was the heat and size that I was querying. Where did you get yours from?

Pegscraper, got one of those, arrived on Saturday. Fitted and working, seems more than bright enough but with the light nights and the imminent change over to my Sprint not sure when I’ll get chance see how it performs, fingers crossed, at least I should be more ‘visible’.

When daytime use of headlights was being recommended for motorcycles back in the 80's, before it became widely adopted, I scoffed at the idea but now I'd say it's an essential safety aid. In that respect a brighter light is as important during daylight as well as night.
