Hi everyone, back in the saddle after a couple of years, and new to Triumph bikes, just bought a 1995 triumph trophy 900, any advice, help, appreciated. Have noticed already the common problems with the neutral switch, anyone out there with the same issues !!!
    Regards,
    Phil

Hi Phil. Welcome! I have a '95 Trident 900 which I've had from new. Now got 48,600 miles on the clock with no real problems (touch wood!). Basic maintenance is pretty much all these beasties need to stay happy and reliable. But you MUST keep the battery well charged/in good nick as this will preserve the starter sprag clutch - sorting that out is an engine out of frame/big strip down jobbie. Other than that, regular oil changes (I do mine yearly) and a K&N air filter should keep it in good fettle. Valve shims every 12,000 miles as well. Never had a problem with the neutral switch, tho' I suppose there's time!!

Hi Steve, thanks for welcome, sounds like you have a well cared for bike, just picked this one up last week, ran ok when collected, but when took it out for a ride the neutral light would not come on then when I stopped and tried to start nothing happened, would only start when couch lever pulled in, I have read up on this and it appears to be a common fault on Triumphs !!!!! Will get Around to investigating it further!!!!
    Regards
    Phil

Hi and welcome to the forum Phil.

The old Trophy 900's are great bikes and as long as you keep the maintenance up to the bike, make sure the carbs are clean (pilot jets are buggers for blocking) also make sure the valve clearances have been done as well.

They are a great bike to do long distances on and are really enjoyable to ride.

Parts wise Ivan at National Triumph is brillant and very helpful person to know.

I'm sure you will have many miles of great riding on your bike.

    Cheers

    Steve

Just had a quick look in my Haynes manual for any clues - fuse may have blown or switch/wiring faulty. May even be just a blown bulb, though I'm not sure that would require the clutch lever pulling in to start it. It obviously thinks it's in gear all the time, but at least you can work around that for the time being!!
