Hi guys, so I live in probably the best riding county (no bias :) ). Fairly new to riding as was only recently given permission to get a bike - seemed to coincide with my life policy being increased. I used to work right opposite the Triumph factory in Hinckley so getting one was always a dream scenario. Anyway after riding a CB125 to get my time in I discovered a very nice 1993 Triumph Sprint 900 that I could afford. Lovely machine other than it doesn't start without using some easy start. I have removed the carbs, cleaned them out and made sure that the floats and needles all have free movement and work correctly. Jets are clean and as far as I can tell all the parts are good. Spark plugs all spark and although I haven't test it the compression feels really good. 59000 miles on the bike - from the state of the rear tyre I suggest it has done a lot of motorway miles and no cornering. Any clues whereabouts in the forum I should be directing these issues? Cheers, Nigee.

Hi Nigee, welcome in. Take a trawl through tech help, there's someone there with a fuel problem at the moment, not necessarily the same as yours, but that's the place to post and find tech matters.
PS as a southerner I regret to have to admit you do have damn fine riding country up there.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Right. Trident Sprint starting issues... Where to start?
I take it that once it has started the isn't any further issues with the bike running then? First thing I would be checking is that the choke is connected and working properly.
Next have you checked the airbox / airfilter as well as the rubbers that go between the carbs and the head as they do have a tendency to split and mess up your air / fuel mixture.

Idle Jets!! The Mikuini 36mm flat side CV carbs are well known for blocking up for the fun of it and just because they look clean it is still worth checking with something like a bit of wire just to make sure.

I also take it that the spark plugs and leads are also in good condition?

Also make sure that the fuel tap is working properly as they can also cause issues.

Figure out what it isn't and go from there.

    Cheers

    Steve

rule one with the carbed t3 bikes, don't use the throttle at start up and always make sure your battery is top notch ( sprag issues otherwise) ,I turn the fuel knob to prime and press it in for a couple of seconds, this I believe, ensures the carbs are full and ready, choke out half way ( mine does not like full choke) and press starter button and away she goes. the choke is under the tank on near side, as Steve says just have a pull on the mechanism to see it is operating fully and goes back when you close the choke. The jets are notorious for blocking and modern fuel makes things worse. Spark plugs may look ok but could be on way out, for a tenner its worth replacing them,I use iridium plugs in mine. How does it run when you get it going?? this could tell you many things.
I have a sprint too and they are great bikes. Good luck mate
