Hey everyone Great to be part of the Triumph community! Picked up my 2000 955i Speed Triple on Tuesday and had a decent ride out today - so pleased with the bike ... Except, I checked the oil when I got back and it was creamy like the symptoms of a head gasket failure. Have read several accounts on other forums that this can be a result of the bike not having a proper run in a long time (which is the case with my bike). Suggested 'fix' is a good long run and an oil change. Does anyone have any experience of this? Suggested investigations? Thanks folks Ian
Welcome! Would have had to stand for a long time for that to happen. The oil will look creamy grey in colour after running anyway due to the amount of very small air bubbles in it but it will return to normal quite quickly. If it doesn't then I would do the oil changed keep an eye on it and if it returns book it in to get the compression checked to see if the head gasket has gone!...
Hi and welcome to a proper newbie (not a a dealer:smile As far as the oil is concerned, think I would drain the oll, change the filter and run it up to temperature. Re-check fluid levels. Standing and very short runs were the engine doesn't get fully up to temperature combined with very cold outside temperatures can lead to condensation on the inside of the crankcases. My lads air cooled Ducati 620 Multistrada suffers and I can barely see through the sight glass to see the oil for a white milky film, but the oil itself still looks brown not creamy. Hope it's nothing serious, the Triple engine is quite robust, let us know how you get on.
Thanks CC Going to do just that Richard - have everything but a new crush washer waiting in the garage.
