Hi all, eventually sorted with a retirement date!!! first week in June, want to treat myself to a steed. Not ridden properly since RD250 days on "L" plates, bit of off road since and in for the training a week on Monday and hopefully full licence soon after. Question: Street Cup or Street Triple or are they too far apart to compare, I know I can test but views from experience is, or should be informative, 57yrs young, active and still strong and fit, for now!!!
The thing about experience is that it is hard to acquire second hand...... We all have our preferences and passions and some of them don’t survive contact with reality. What I am saying is that you probably need to get some training under your belt to firm up what sort of riding you plan to do and what you want from a bike. In turn, only when you have a licence can you test ride both and see what most appeals to your taste buds. At 57 you may still have a frustrated inner hooligan lurking or you may be readier to recognise your limitations and prize poise over performance. You alone know. You have not indicated if you plan to buy new or second hand or indeed any budgetary limitations with helmet and protective gear. In my 250 Yamaha days they were very secondary considerations - not now. Hard as it is, I suggest you get wobbling first and maybe even plan on an intermediate ride to acquire a little experience before going large on your heart’s desire knowing better what that desire is. Things will crystallise by late May!
Cheers Callumity, no budgetary re safety, age has mellowed me. I have already bought good quality kit. Bike likely to be nearly new for fun!!! no commuting! I hope, unless I have to get a part time job to bolster the pension. I have warmed to the Street Cup but the triple appeals to the hooligan I once was!
The triple will get you into trouble faster but has the more forgiving chassis to get you out of it too. I returned from a long lay off to a Bonnie to clip my own wings and as an exercise in self discipline. Much as I yearn for a Speed Triple I know it would lead me expensively astray!
I would say the Street triple is the more rounded bike and would do everything the twin does and more
IMO It depends how high on your priority list is the concept of pride of ownership, versus speed/power/excitement. If it's high, go for the Street Cup - it really is a VERY pretty bike with good handling, a torquey motor and great mpg (imp. when you go travelling, to the Alps, South of France, Italy - which you will with the right bike!!!)
