I’m new here. I currently running a 2016 Tiger 1200 XCa (although it’s listed on eBay & autotrader). I’ve decided it’s too top heavy for me (especially loaded up) and a complete PITA to get out of the garage. My drive leads onto a small bit of private road I share with 3 other houses which is fairly steep so it’s difficult to manoeuvre. My next bike will likely be a T120. I’m test riding one on Saturday at the local triumph dealer. Assuming all is good I will most likely look at 2nd hand bikes rather than new and go crazy on the motone website. I already know what I want to do with it.
Welcome in Incognito, a bit of a jump from a mahoosive ADV bike to a naked retro. Have you thought about trying the 900 Tiger Trumpet too to see if the smaller, lighter tigger is an option too? I have a BMW R1250GS and had a test ride on a BMW R1250R a few months ago (not a retro bike I know, but naked still the same) and I found the wind blast quite tiring after a while at speed so make sure you check this out on your test ride and of course let us know how you get on
Thank you for the warm welcome. I just checked the weight of the new tiger 900, the dry weight is 64 Kg lighter than my 1200. That’s a massive difference. I took mine to Scotland a couple of weeks back, the week before the nice weather (when we had all the storms). Loaded up with all the camping gear the bike would have been well over 300kg, there was more than one occasion where I thought it was going over. With the weight sitting so high it doesn’t take much for it to go past the point of no return. It was a struggle to get it off the side stand if it wasn’t on the flat. I know the latest bike is quite a bit lighter though . In the unlikely event I don’t like the T120 I will give the 900 some thought. I’ve never owned a twin so need to scratch that itch. Removing the cat would be the first mod. I was looking at luggage options yesterday and saw Givi do the adventure style panniers which fit too. I’ve had naked bikes in the past so I’m familiar with being battered by the wind. I could always fit a decent sized screen for long tours if a fly screen isn’t enough. the weather for tomorrow’s test ride couldn’t be better, full sun and 24 degrees. I’m really looking forward to it.
