Hiya, I have been riding bikes for 25 years... which makes me ancient. I have had a Triumph Speed Triple 1050 (Tallulah) for 8 years or so and have purchased in addition to her a Tiger 955i. (currently deciding on a name) I love them both. The tiger was in response to last 'summer' spent doing the anti clockwise circumference of Ireland which made me suffer from white finger and Talullah decide that she was much older than her 15 years and she limped home quite wilted. I did spend a day in a carpark taping up the air inlet pipes as she sounded like a machine gun and I was worried about being a victim of retaliatory fire. I ride most of the year courtesy of heated grips. My partner passed his test 2 years ago as he decided he didn't like being a pillion.... he is a good biker. Has picked it up well. He has a street triple- I told him he had to get a Triumph. When we are out on the bikes, people assume the speed triple is his which is more boring than funny now. I will stop waffling.. just wanted to say hi. has anyone else got a tiger? I need some tips.
oh good... I am a regular keyboard talker but real life has me mute. I am a proud introvert. My ex suggested we get helmet to helmet radio or some such thing. I couldn't imagine anything worse than being able to talk to others when on my bike.
When I started out it was Volvo Drivers who did the carving..... now it is BMW all the way. It is like the only functional thing on their car is the accelerator. The steering and mirrors are knackered and their brain is in the glovebox. Yeah, I would need a censor.
Welcome. Not seen that many Tiger owners on here.............plenty of Speed Triple owners though. I know what you mean about touring on a Speed but I just can't get rid of mine.
Hi tallulah, welcome in! I'm sure a tiger 955i rider will start to make themselves known at some point! I recently purchased a tiger 800, which I love, so that leaves me 155 cc under qualified!
Hello and Welcome! Name wise, something else with a Bugsy Malone link? Blousey the Tiger?!?!?!?! Not sure going to be much help on that one, or with regards the Tiger........so, just not much help when it comes to thinking about it! :0)
I've got a Tiger Explorer and love the bike. Still finding recently passed their test youths causing problems in their clios - big silly exhaust systems Welcome to the forum
Why did Tony the Tiger spring to mind?? Ah yes .... Kellogs Frosties!! THEY'RE GRRRREAT!!! (I do believe!).
I definitely couldn't get rid of Tallulah. I have come close a few times when money has been tight but she is worth far more to me than anyone would pay. She is such a good bike to ride. Solid on the road. Plenty of oooomph, good cornering. Just the perfect bike. She is, like all road bikes, not built for rough roads though and Ireland has the worst roads I have ever been on.
The old N7 (now R445) from Portlaoise to Mountrath used to be really bad and only improved slightly towards Roscrea and Nenagh. Bit of a bugger really when you are carrying 25 tonnes or so of sheet glass - and yes it usually did survive, although my first load to Ballydesmond wasn't exactly pristine when I got there!! M7 improved things greatly when it opened. (My last run to Ireland was in August 2012, before I became too ill to drive 44 tonners, so things may be better these days. I do hope so 'cos I want to go back on the bike, not in the car! As I am now north of 65 and in receipt of my state pension, I guess my trucking days to Ireland are, sadly, probably over - medication worse than the illness!!)
We had a fantastic time. It has the most stunning scenery and, I know it is a cliché, the people were wonderful. I tasted Irish whisky for the first time and it's now my favourite whisky. I also loved the music more hearing it live. I will go back but I will plan hotels instead of camping. I will also take the Tiger and not the Triple.
I would recommend hotels/bed and breakfasts rather than camping. (Trying to dry off your gear in a tent is no fun) also take a tourer and not a sports bike. It is beautiful, just rough.
Irish Whiskey (with an e !! ) Mmm, great stuff all together Not at all like that peaty boggy stuff from north of Hadrians Wall (without the e!! ) Dunno if you got to try some of the Pot Still single Malts? Steve, the M7 made the N 7 redundant and now its a great road with barely any traffic, but yes ,pre motorway it was a nightmare. As for Ballydesmond . Anyway time to get on the bike and come back.
