Hi all, just put readies down today on my first bike. As a newbie it's been quite intimidating deciding what to get, with the tension between "I want one of those beasts" and "But I don't really know what I'm doing so I'll probably do myself some serious damage. Everyone says be sensible and start with something easy to handle, then step up once you've experience and confidence (and you've dropped it a few times)." After a lot of research I tried a Street Twin, a T120 and a Tiger XC at the weekend. Decided to rule the Tiger out (for now) because of size, and the T120 because of weight. Loved the Street Twin but then the devil inside said "yes but you know it's a bit small and gutless", and you'd be better off with the T120. Went back today and between the two I suddenly saw the light... The most beautiful girl in the world. A Street Cup. In Racing Yellow and Silver Ice with Jet Black. I'm just hoping I'll be happy wearing her out a bit!
Welcome in great looking bike you've got, but I don't want to sound as many before has, but take it easy before as you say wearing her out a bit, Not the best of seasons to try out a bike but understandably the best time to buy, Get the feel of her between your legs, take it easy and get more experienced with her, before riding the shit out of Her to wear her out a bit -- LOL ( Sounding like advice from ya Da what !!! lol RIDE SAFE FIGWOLD
Hi figwold and welcome to the forum. Beautiful bike, try not to 'drop it a few times' it won't do you or the bike any good. There are a lot of very experienced bikers on this forum, loads to learn and get involved in.
Welcome and enjoy that fantastic looking bike. Is that the familiar tread pattern of Pirelli Phantoms I see there,? They were great tyres and contributed to much footpeg grinding on my Z650 some years back. Turned a lovely shade of blue on the edges as well.
Welcome in figwold, lovely bike that, even better looking in the flesh. Take care of her and ride safely when you get her.
Hi Fifwold that's a lovely looking bike, did you have a smaller bike while you were learning? If so you will have hopefully made any learner mistakes on that, and the plus side will be you will find the bigger engine much more relaxed and easier to ride but do take it easy this time of year as the roads could be greasy/wet/slippy..and remember just think everyone else on the roads are out to get you..then hopefully they won't!
Welcome in Figgy. Cracking looking bike that. Listen to all the advice above and I will add another voice to it as well. I agree about it not being the best time of year to get a new bike but dont blame you, I wouldnt be able resist that either if I had the cash. Loads of leaves, black ice patches will be with us soon too, if not already in your part of the world, cold tyres and also car drivers who haven't demisted fully and cannot see you through the slit they have cleared. Ok lesson over. Take it easy mate, Good luck and stay safe.
Thanks all for your kind words. Been learning on an XJ6. A couple of drops while stationary, the basic lessons I hope. Picking her up 30 Dec - sounds iffy but the weather here isn't normally too bad, even in winter. I won't be commuting on her, so I should be able to avoid the rush hour and choose my days out to avoid the bad weather and search for the sunshine. I intend taking it slowly. I'll let you know how she goes.
Seeing as you have opted for the new Street Cup, I am sure many including me would appreciate a review of your new steed when you have had the chance to give it a good ride
A very warm welcome to you buddy Congratulations on your new purchase: Lovely bike ;-) Take it easy. The roads aren't that great (being winter n all)....so take it easy and learn throttle control and learn to control the brakes in a gentle manner. Most of all be safe and enjoy your ride . We are all here, so if you need any advice....just give us a shout ;-)
Picking her up on the 30th eh? Well just to let you know that's my birthday, so on the way home, should you decide you don't like her don't bother to wrap her, a single bow tied to the mirror will do nicely!! And congrats on being the forums first street cup member!
Hi, Nice, was looking at one when my T120 was in for its recall. Jumped ship from a Tiger 800, had last 5 years and very foregiving when chasing my boys on there 1,000's. 1,500 miles on the T100 and is as much fun plus rain mode good when slimey.
Love that Cranberry Red tank on the T120 John. Easy to see why there is such a waiting list for them.
