I know you guys and gals will help me out, being as I am retired and stupid. I have in the past taken my bike off the road during the winter, but this year I am going to be a right little devil and keep it on the road and try to use it as much as I can (well hard me) or is that stupid, lol. so do any of you lovely Bonneville riding folk have a recommendation of what type of Oxford heated grips I will need? Your thoughts and advice would be much appreciated :):):) many thanks

Maybe you should consider heated gloves. I've been using them for the past 2 years and if you don't mind the cabling they really are much better than heated grips. However, heated grips or heated gloves, either are better than cold fingers.

See my thread below about fitting hand-guards. I did 350 miles last weekend (Nottingham to Kent and back) and never once thought about turning the grips on. OK, it wasn't freezing then, but hand-guards keeping the chill off your knuckles will certainly help when it is.

Riding a Thunderbird as well, I have the Triumph heated grips. Seem ok to me :)
As others are saying I would go with heated clothes and a jacket.
Can be run off the bike or a battery. Also if you change bikes they can go with you.

Thanks to you all. I knew you wouldn`t let me down, now I need to decide which option to go for, oh choices choices. I like the idea of the guards as suggested by pasher. Not going to go for the heated gloves as sadly on a budget :( but I am considering the guards and heated grips.:D

Forgot to add, pasher could you update us now that you have had the guards fitted for a week or two how they are working out for you?

They're fine. Don't imagine I'll be removing them, even when next summer comes. Just to add to what I said above, 350 miles in two trips last weekend, in summer gloves (no padding) and bar heaters not once turned on. All for £14 off of Ebay (and a bit of mackling to make a couple of brackets).

Oh dear Dozersdad I thought I was doing well with the Triumph shorts and shades, and what is a helmet thingy you dare to mention? (Cue the comments lol) Lol @ littleade, see even you have trouble typing the three letters as much as I struggle saying them :p. I would have a B%W and display it in my front garden as a warning to others of what you could but shouldn`t ride EVER, :D:D morning chaps

I had knuckle bark busters off a moto-xer they have another advantage over here in Australia, rocks thrown up by trucks. don't hit your hands anymore !! Put them on my 1994 Trident, only needed a longer pin/bolt that goes through the pivot point on your lever's, possible they might go on a later bike if you upgrade renew as long as it's another naked...!
