Headstock Wobble

Jack up your front end so there is no weight on the wheel, then check for smooth movement or any play in your headstock bearings.
Depending on mileage, they may just require re-packing with grease, adjusting or replacing.
It may be just your fork alignment that is slightly out.

I was planning to swap the OEM round head bearings to taper bearings but other issues then got in the way !

As mentioned MichEng has suggested, the creaking could be from stressed alignment of the forks.
You would need to release the pinch bolts on the front spindle, undo the spindle a couple of turns so it isnt tight, release the bolds on the head stock, NOT THE VERY TOP ONES. Then carefully pump the suspension a few times, if there is an alignment issue then this would hopefully right things up, tighten everything up to the correct torque and hopefully if that is the issue it would be resolved.

I made a tool to fit the top nut on mine and tried re-torquing them but still got the clicking....

If I'm going to the trouble of removal to regrease etc. I'll just replace them
