Looks like Markdown to me. Seems to have been adopted for things like that WatsApp thingy some people use, possibly other messaging systems?

Hit it with a large hammer and throw it out of the window. It worked for mine, never had any problems with it after that.

Seriously. I lost the plot with it completely... I was having a bad day.. Week... Month... Year... Enough was enough. Felt so much better after too.
