I've been looking to add to my garage so been thinking for a while and decided to rekindle my love affair with the cbr600 of which I have had a few but my best by far was the one I got brand new in 1991 in lovely red and white
I missed out on a couple through eBay and bike magazines but found a good example that needed some work on gum tree , let me just add that last time I used gum tree I nearly got scammed buying a bike so Im a bit nervous
This one I was looking at was in Scotland so too far for me to travel I emailed the guy late in the evening and decided to put an offer in which he excepted that morning I explained that I wouldnt be up in person to pick the bike up but would transfer the funds into his account that very day and as soon as I had his details and I would arrange a courier to pick the bike up that week so he was in a win win situation he would still have the bike and my money , but to my disbelief I got an email from him saying that the bike has now been sold ,oh I thought he sent out an email to the wrong person ,I eventully got this guys phone number and gave him a ring well I thought we had a agreement on that I had brought the bike for an agreed figure yes he said but a guy turned up at the front door and offered him some money yes I said but you did agree to sell me the bike anyway it was too late the bike has now been sold so the search continues but thre moral of the story is don't trust anyone
    I hate gum tree

Unfortunately mate, it's a classic case of "it ain't done 'til it's done". There are still lots of people with integrity but increasingly there are also more and more of the other sort. At least you hadn't paid him.

Agree with Biglad, there are people out there with integrity but a whole lot more without it. Cash, it seems, is still king to most people.

I used to buy and sell all my bikes privately but sadly there are lots of scammers, telemarketers, and conmen out there and I'm very wary. Did manage to pick up a bargain 600 Bandit for my lad off e-bay but most folks selling there want to deal off the ebay/paypal system to avoid the charges but in doing that you forfeit any comeback should your purchase be dodgy.
I run my own small business and I'm sick of trawling through all the scam e-mails made to look like inquires or supplier invoices. Probably get 10 scam / spam to every genuine...... just pisses me off.
