Honda CT125, based on the new Cub but made for off road. Hopefully available next year. Could be what I do my next big trip on. (Apologies for the double photo, it’s not letting me delete the second image. I only want the one bike ;))

In all honesty it would probably do it brilliantly, if not very quickly.

I used to have a C90 back in the 80’s fantastic little bikes. In those days they only had 3 gears, think the new ones have 4 now. What I discovered on my Arctic Trip last year was that you don’t need a big bike to go exploring. I met a couple 2 up on an old Vespa who had ridden it all the way from Italy. I fancy my next trip to be more leisurely, less kilometers per day, longer than 3 weeks and have no accomodation prebooked allowing for complete flexibility.

No shouldn’t be that expensive. They reckon just under 4000 quids, slightly more than the new Cub

Problem with that is, I imagine you could spend quite a bit of your day looking for accommodation, some days at least. Still sounds good though.

When I did Ireland I just booked ahead using Booking.com, really easy. Not sure what other countries they cover.

Yes, decide on the day where to head to and book accordingly. Last year I’d got everything booked months ahead and sometimes the days were really long. I want to avoid that for next year

My riding buddy has a Honda C90 and along with 6 others on C50/C70/C90’s have toured Northern Scotland including a few Scottish Isles from Cheshire and the group don’t/can’t use motorways.

Last year they rode via Yorkshire Dales to Stranraer for the ferry to NI, then toured Northern and Southern Island returning via Holyhead again all on little Hondas.

The only problem anyone has had for all of their tours is 3 punctures

As he says”We’ve all got big bikes and could do these trips easy peasy but where’s the challenge in that”

    Go for it Nikki.

Precisely Dave. Last years Arctic trip would’ve been more challenging on the little Honda. I think what did it for me was seeing the Italian couple on their 125cc Vespa.
And the advantage is if the bike falls on my leg I’ll be able to extricate myself without the need of 3 guys. ;);) Or a trip to A&E. See it’s a win win situation.

if I do the trip, it’ll be for my Dad and the charity will probably be Macmillan Nurses who looked after him. I’m fancying riding down to Greece via the Balkans and coming back up through Italy.

Why should your bike fall on your leg lass, has this happened before

My only concern about using one of those little Hondas is there’s no weather protection and with the high level pipe could it restrict the carrying of luggage such as throw overs.

I like your idea of doing another charity ride Nikki :)

Just thinking Nikki, could a little bike like that go on the back of your camper van ?

Yes Andy but I’d need a thing for it to sit on. Either that or a small trailer. The van does have a tow bar so I have possibilities. It would be nice to have the bike with me when I take the van on a trip. But not my big trip as that’s going to be entirely on 2 wheels

If it’s priced similar to the super cub then it’s certainly not cheap. Reliable? Well it’s a Honda so you’d expect it to be even though the accountants will have it built down to a price! Why no centre stand?
Are 125’s still restricted? I seem to recall the law was changed, banning learners from 250’s, and all 125 from then on being restricted. I’ve ridden quite a few 125’s that once you reach 60mph the power just stops, almost like a switch being tripped. I’m sure in this day and age a 125 could get close to 90mph (reliably) if the hand ringing safety police hadn’t have got their way. : unamused: If the CT was given its legs, I’m sure it would be a lot more fun. Let’s be honest though, like all “adventure” bikes, the road going version (super cub) will be more practical and nicer to ride on the road.
Just remember though, to some, image is everything. ;)
If they were £2k I might even buy one! :yum
