    Guys

Looking for a decent jacket for £700 limit.

Looking for a Gore-Tex jacket that will keep me warm and dry, emphasis on dry. As I have never paid this much for a jacket I want to get it right, any knowledge that can put me right?

    Thank you
    Andy

This guy on ebay has them for about £163. Dont have any affiliation or know if they are genuine etc etc but they look a nice jacket and TMF is a good recommendation

I went for the Dainese D-cyclone jacket as well as trousers. Both gore-tex and have kept me bone dry so far. Plus they look really nice and have received many compliments.

A mate of mine who has a Rukka Navigatorr jacket for £800 commented that the D-cyclone looked and felt better than his.

I bought them from Infinity's clearance store in Camberley for around £600 (both jacket and trousers). Visited the store last Saturday and saw the jackets still there. Worth considering.

Can’t argue when you see Rukka on the label, top quality kit with a big reputation.

I have to agree. Thing is with Rukka is that it will definitely last you years if you look after it; wash it on a regular basis and it will look as good as new for years. And it will alway keep you warm and bone dry no matter how long you are out in the elements. IMO worth pushing the budget if you can.....

I actually have a rather tacky-looking foul weather riding jacket labelled “Bikers Gear Australia” which I bought on the internet for about £100. The plastic snaps and zips are a bit cheap-looking and it fits like a sack, but it’s actually a very effective winter riding jacket (helped by the fact that I have a windscreen).

Regarding the comment about Infinity gear, there’s an important point hidden in that statement.

When companies like Lewis and Belstaff made something in-house, they were (at least potentially) unique or at least, different to the competition. As a lot of firms have found, once you outsource your production to countries in which copyright protections aren’t worth a fisherman’s fart, it’s only a matter of time before either -

    A) they start undercutting you with a comparable product
    B) your product starts appearing to their standards, and there’s nothing you can do about it.

Belstaff are a classic case in point, these days they make jackets for hipsters that cost £1000, are two sizes smaller than the label and never get wet.

It really annoys me that Bellstaff built their companies reputation and finances, selling very good jackets to bikers, who now can no longer afford to look at them.

I can’t worry about it. I wore waxed cotton back in the day; they were horrible things, black, sticky, rarely properly waterproof despite endless maintenance. When I bought my Rukka “space suit” I thought Right, I’m never going to wear these horrible black things again.. and I never have.

I can’t really worry that Belstaff now sell £1000 toys to posers with absurd moustaches. I’ve moved on, long ago, and no longer have black fingernails and a wet crotch ...

I have to agree, they were messy, heavy and not waterproof for long, the trousers in particular were the worse things ever invented ffs, that said I have a modern richa wax cotton jacket with waterproof membrane, it works pretty good but not in serious rain

Halversons are a decent brand, the other thing to consider is wether you want laminated or not

Good point about the different types of jacket, I don’t think many riders understand that this is why jackets vary in price so much - they differ in construction.

I don’t commute on two wheels these days. When I last did so, from Peterborough to Northampton and Kings Lynn, both in winter, that’s when I bought my Rukka suit. I also wore Derri boots, ridiculously flimsy but warm and waterproof. I had a windscreen and Hippo Hands, great kit.

I have the Triumph Malvern Goretex I was selling it but decided to keep it, great jacket, they do matching Goretex trousers

lists at £620, you can find them for £500 ish, recon for £700 you could get the trousers too

Triumph’s clothing margin is huge, must be a deal to be had
