    G'day all...

I'm off to France in a couple of weeks time and I'm just starting to get my schnizzle together for what I want to take... last item is my GoPro type camera... I really don't want to put it on my helmet and look a bit of a tool (IMO - Apologies if anyone has one fitted to theirs !!) so I'm looking at mounting it on my tank via the outer hex bolt circular rim thingy... I have found this one on fleabay (I know !!) but its for the ST variant and I have the Sprint 1050 GT ... anyone know if it would still fit around the tank bracket at all ?

    Thanks,
    Mike.

I got a gopro branded chest mount for mine, there are some clips on you tube of people using them. Because you can see your dials and your arms etc the footage is better to watch. If you can only see the view, eg helmet mounted, everything looks a bit floaty and detached. Plus the camera stays with you if you get off which saves the faff of detaching it each time.

Cheers all.. It looks like a bit of investigation is needed .. or at least more ! The only potential problem I have with a chest rig is that will it be big enough to go over my textile jacket... and Im not the smallest of blokes either...Realised earlier as well that that tank bracket wouldn't get to me in time for my trip anyways but I still maybe get it for future use.
Thanks again, I'm sure I'll find something :)

I used a GoPro camera @ Wanneroo race track, I bought it second hand with several brackets, the bracket I used was the suction cup base. It handled speeds up to the 100 mph mark with ease , fully stable video/pictures taken, tried it in two locations, off the side of the fuel tank (R hand side) and atop my helmet. Used suction cup atop my helmet down south through the Margret river wine region, did several hours of riding @ 60 mph no problems, stayed put !
    Hope that's of help.

    Cheers capt.

Cheers all... In the end I used the sticky mount with a click lock type base and several articulated rods .. the footage was surprisingly good and clear through the screen and the audio levels quite good too. I would post some footage but the cameras at home, Im not and it'd probably bore the t**ts off you anyways !!

Thanks again for all the comments.

What sort of roads were you on when you took the test footage?

    I have TomTom Bandit.

One of the main reasons for getting it was to record some of the rides. I always set out with the intention of taking some pictures of the scenery and places I go but often don't because getting the phone out to take them is a faf.

My first thought was to mount it on the bike rather than the helmet and I have to say that I was disappointed with the video. It was fine on the boring main roads, through towns and on the dual carriage ways etc.

However, get on the twisty back roads where the road surface is often bumpy and less than perfect and footage is not good due to the bike bouncing about. When mounted on the helmet the same ride gives excellent results as the body smooths out the bumps in the road. Also as you look about the camera records what you see and not just the road ahead.

This is a short clip showing the problem.
