Good Idea Or Not?

The Idea is good.
The implementation will be, 90% busybody, pillars of society, sticking it to anyone who doesn't drive like they do.

 

We have had a similar scheme here in Norfolk for two years now. No doubt there are some spiteful uploads but they are viewed and judged on whether there is sufficient evidence to support a prosecution and if it is in the public interest. I don’t think Smilinjack has anything to worry about - his riding principles are similar to mine as long as you take care and don’t speed in posted limits!

 

A tip of my helmet to riders in GB from Nv, USA. I enjoy this forum with it's knowledgeable content & humor. We certainly have our isues here, BUT, & I mean no disrespect, living on a sponge & complaining about corrosion is like farting upwind. There's no avoiding the affect. Your amount of regulations, traffic, & thefts amaze me but I fully appreciate & understand the need to ride so again, I tip my helmet to you.

Police are stretched so very thinly these days, you're not going to see fines being issued left, right and centre for some minor transgression that some rando has uploaded. They just don't have time and resources to review and investigate all the footage. More likely they'll use these to compliment ongoing investigations rather than to create new ones.

Obviously I'm in 2 minds about it's potential. I hate the idea of being watched all the time, especially by citizens. And obviously I don't want to receive a ticket in the post for speeding while safely overtaking (45 in a 40 type thing). BUT, some people are mental and do mental unsafe things on the road - you can't be allowed to get away with doing 70 in a 30. That sh*t gets innocent people killed. And it's those people who will probably complain the loudest about this service without realising they're the ones who are ultimately responsible for it.

 

I don't think how public should be able to video other road users. Where will it end? Also, if it's speed related doesn't the camera have to be calibrated? Dashcams etc aren't calibrated! Sure a good solicitor would have something to say about this.

Mates girlfriend got put on an awareness course for partially crossing a white line from footage handed in by a "pillar of the community" after she followed him for 2 miles doing 30 in a 40 limit! I think he should have been prosecuted
