Genuine Tank Pad Glue

3m double sided tape, i got mine from a craft shop, stuck like sh1t to a blacket!

 

Isopropyl alcohol comes with Datatag too if you have any wipes left from previous bikes you may have tagged.

 

Not totally sure on the wipes (disclaimer) but I would have no problem using one, yes both surfaces need to be as clean and smooth as possible, mine had the original adhesive tape residue on both surfaces, I scraped it off the pad and WD40 cleaned the tank 'glue', then meths cleaned off the WD, T-Cut and a good polish applied, never moved at all in the year+ I had it, this is the best time of year to apply them too, the tape prefers a warmer surface.
Also worked for the 'nuts' tank protector that came off due to being glued on.

 

Use distilled white vinegar to remove old glue, wax, polish, tar, fly squats, water marks and any other surface marks. Wipe dry with a micro cloth, then use a good quality branded double-sided tape, like Scotch or 3M.

 

When I collected my STRS on Saturday I was told by the dealer that the Tank Pad I had ordered was on back order as there was a problem with the glue, i.e. not sticking. Might be worth a shot across the bow and see if your tank pad is part of a problem batch and get it changed!
