So what's peoples opinion on fitting gaiters?

I'm a bit undecided whether to or not....
The Bonnie has the small fork protector placcy bits on anyway.

If I was doing a lot more miles and/or commuting, I'd probably stick them on for protection, but I don't, so don't need them in that respect.
But on the other hand, they would fit in with keeping everything (apart from the tank) black.
    Decisions decisions....

I would put them on as they fit the period look. They do a much better job at protecting your stanchions than the plastic shields too.

I was in 2 minds with Doris then decided to do it anyway and really like the look.

Well it was a split decision cos the other 2 were against but then I realised one of them was a halfwit so there was a majority at 2 to 1 and a half

I've put gaiters on mine partly because modern chrome tends not to be all that so I thought I'd protect the forks before the rot sets in but mainly because the plastic fork protectors reminded me of something a sales rep would hang his jacket on in his company Vauxhall!

I fitted them......3 times. The first two sets each lasted about 1,000 miles. So, Lesson 1 if you are going to do it fit the OEM item. The others all seem to split!

Lesson 2. They unquestionably protect the stanchions far better than the minimalist shin guards.

Lesson 3. It only takes one ‘b*****d’ stone chip to turn your chrome into a seal slicer but for a fair weather, low mileage rider aesthetics may matter more.

Lesson 4. Sitting on the fence normally gets you splinters in the ****.

Lesson 5. Not fitting them is more liable to lead to regret if **** happens. If you do fit them your regret at loss of bling will be minimal.

OK, I've ordered a set for now.
But given my luck with parcels recently, they will probably end up in Azerbaijan...

Your all old, so you'll remember Last of the summer wine - Nora's wrinkled stockings!
Maybe it's just me, but I don't like them :no_mouth:, (gaiters or wrinkled stockings)

Gaiters every time - they help give the bike the traditional look as well as added protection for you fork seals.
Also - don't like the look of those nasty plastic stone guards!

    On a Bonnie fine

    less so on other bikes

Then again we paid a fair bit to restore some cagiva forks due to pitting

That said a I got a pair of replacement tubes for the Guzzi restoration that didn't cost too much. Probably should run it with KandNs as well but prefer the original Bellmouths on the Del Ortos

Fitted mine around six months ago now more for looks but they are also practical didnt like the dafty looking plastic guards so went with the genuine rubbers.

Just curious as to why you've got a steering damper on it.?
Haven't ridden mine yet but the other half's Bonnie always feels fairly well planted on the front.

The damper originally done it for the looks but after hitting a few lumps and bumps in the roads around this area I am glad that its on there also feels nicer in the bends
