Idiots in cars kill all, don't mind if your going fast or slow.... They pull out into or onto you your knackered....
Speed don't kill..... It's a fact.... It's what you hit when you stop that kills you... Speed is just a factor just like ice and oil......

I kind of agree with pistonbloke & screwball really.... Yes the number one enemy is the car driver, they dont see us, because they aint looking for us. Too busy in their own little worlds, not concentrating, texting, calling on mobiles, putting make up on, chatting with passengers & because a lot of motorcyclist are seasonal riders the drivers dont look out for us all the time because we are not usually there.

But, speaking from experience & im pretty sure its the norm, you adapt to whatever you ride. When i had my sportsbikes i rode them fast & sometimes, some might say a little wreckless. My mates reckon "ride it like you stole it" was a perfect way describing my riding style. But on the cruiser i turn into a completely different person, just happy to plod along.

So my theory is, cruisers ride slower than sportsbike riders...FACT!
So therefore cruisers see more potential dangers, have more time to react against said dangers & are surely more likely to be seen by car drivers.... Just a thought!

I remember a while back, 'Bike' mag (I think) did an article on how clothing affects your style of riding, not a proper bit of academic research mind you, nevertheless the conclusion was, that wearing full race leathers riders went faster than when they just wore jeans & leather jacket. The feeling was it was down to having more of a sense of security. Got to agree with PIG going faster is more dangerous, we all do it, even us on cruisers! It's part of what's biking's all about. Don't get deluded into thinking speed is safe, if you come off at 50 you're far more likely to walk away than if you come off at a ton. & let's not forget many riders now have the same distractions as car drivers, with sat nav, blue tooth, looking for the best shots for their go-pro cameras. My only distraction is a short skirt & a nice pair of legs.

I agree with all above ,i've done the speed thing and the stupid things i shouldn't have done,i was brought up on british motorcycles and learned alot from my father and family, lost an uncle because of a drunk behind the wheel but he got sorted ,so at my time of life just want to enjoy the ride and go at my own pace and time ,yes i still go fast on a motorway if i have to .life is to short as it is so why take the risk ..........and so ends the sermon for today :) Go your own way

Pig told me about the legs but he never said anything about you wearing a short skirt but to be fair I can see how that would be distracting. buttshake.gif
