could someone work out what year engine matches this number.. TR6EDU7449 I think its a 1971 trophy but the oil drain and the gearbox drain plugs don't match any photo I've got. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello Raymond and welcome to the forum :)

To me the engine numbers looks like they have been restamped mate.
    The whole format looks dodgy.
Could the 4th digit along have been a T and someone has changed it to a E and also added TR6 at the front definitely using different stamp types.
Also the D looks like its been tampered with, I’m wondering if that was originally a C and the U originally 11.
Therefore making your engine number 6TC 11749
Making your engine a 6TC, Thunderbird engine.
Had a Thunderbird 6TC engine in a Triton I owned back in 1967

Tiglet is correct. This is definitely not a genuine number. It has started out as a 6T. By 1971 all crankcases had the whole of this area stamped with smallTriumph logos with the engine number stamped over them. Would like to see more photos of engine.

Try tapping 'triumph motorcycle engine numbers' into google and/or go onto www.tri-corengland.com or www.lowbrowcustoms.com for info. Going through google brings you to the correct page.
From what I can make out you have a 1964 unit construction 650cc motor using the number DU7449 only. The first four digits would appear to be irrelevant. They probably mean something to somebody, but I can't see what!

After looking at the numbers on a larger screen and not my ickle iPad and using Steve’s and Rockers links I’d now say it’s a Thunderbird engine 6T DU7449.
As Steve’s quoted a unit construction.

It’s most probably a T as 6T was the Thunderbird designated engine/model number.
If my memory is correct the 650 range in 1964 was the Thunderbird 6T, Trophy TR6, and the Bonneville T120.

Then it was a long time ago :)
