    Hi,

I have a 2004 955i, had it about three weeks, and after sorting some minor issues, and now I'm used to it's character I absolutely love it.

As I live in London I wanted it to sound a little louder, not stupid loud but loud enough for drippy car drivers to notice. (That's the only reason, honest Gov). So I got one of these:

    http://www.fuelexhausts.com/exhausts/f1r-race-exhaust-single/daytona-955i-2002-06

I use it with the baffle in, which is a good compromise in noise volume.

Only thing is a couple of times since the EML has come on. First time I did the 3 warm/cool cycles and it went off. But came on again a week (100 miles) later.

I got a cable from ebay and got TuneECU working on an old laptop. I got the following code on both occasions:

P0135 - Oxygen sensor heater circuit malfunction

I'm wondering if this could be becuase it needs a new map after the new exhaust? Or if it is indeed a faulty Lambda sensor (or associated wiring) and I should look at getting a new one/fault finding?

The other thing I've noticed is both times it's come on were directly after a start that took a little longer than normal. Possibly as I've blipped the throttle on start up, which it doesn't seem to like.

One more thing I've seen on ebay is a lambda sensor deletion device, is this a good idea, or bad? Certainly seems cheaper than a new sensor.

Anyways, many thanks in advance, I've got about as far down the road with this as I can on my own and an expert opinion is needed.

Never, ever touch the throttle when starting the bike. Turn the engine over and allow the tickover to settle; then go and have fun.

Thanks Dave. So do you think it could be as simple as that?

P.S. I always let it sit and warm up for a few mins before riding, it just seems the polite thing to do. :)

Rich it's the first few seconds that's important in this respect buddy.

Now then, about the O² sensor fault code. If you've touched the throttle during starting the engine will not fire straight away which means more unburnt fuel going passed the sensor - this MIGHT be the cause of the fault or it might be a wiring issue from when the new pipe was fitted. It should be - if it was only the end pipe change but it's worth checking just in cases.

First thing for sure is to adopt the factory start procedure, if the problem remains then we'll go further, OK?

Hi and welcome to the forum. I let my bike warm up for a few seconds while I put my helmet and gloves on and then take it easy until it comes up to temperature.

    Thanks for the replies, All.

I've cleared the code and will take Dave's advice of following factory starting procedure religiously.

Unfortunately being a fair-weather-lightweight I haven't had the chance to go for a ride in the last few days. But will update as soon as I do.

    Many thanks again.

So after a few longish rides with lots of stopping and starting of the engine everything looks fine.

I'm convinced it was just my ham-fisted starting technique that was causing the problem. I was kind of pressing start, twisting throttle, then realsing start button, only for it not to start and have to start over. Then EML comes on.

What Dave said about unburnt fuel makes perfect sense to me and starting properly seems to give no problems.

I'm really starting to get the hang of how the bike handles now and how it 'feels' in the corners. Takes confidence but the thing is incredibly capable, more so than me, LOL.

Just taking it step by step and learning (or re-learning) slowly, no rush and no one to impress, it's all about the fun!

Love the bike more and more after each ride.

Many thanks to one and all.

Hi Richard, I'm delighted to hear that all is going well with you and your ride. All you need now is more miles ;);)
