Is anyone else struggling to get hold of the guys at dealertool? I have 2 licences for my bikes and need to change the laptop I use but the download link I was originally given to obtain the software files no longer works. I cannot find a link on their website and they are nor responding to my support requests. Have they stopped trading?
They have a new website. https://dealertoolcouk.ipage.com/wp_site_1730329252/ I contacted them two weeks ago and they responded within two hours.
I've contacted them numerous times in the past, only by email but they got back to me pretty quickly. I had a link straight to their download page which I last used a few weeks ago but it looks like it's been taken down, possibly due to the redesign of their website.
You can run it on a MAC using Bootcamp apparently but I suspect the issue with a dedicated MAC version may be getting it "approved" by Apple?
Many thanks, you are correct, however, Bootcamp partitions you hard drive enabling you to choose which operating system you wish to use when running the Mac, Mac OS or Windows, which will require you to purchase a copy of Windows, £220, in addition to the cost of Dealertool, £60. Having used Windows throughout the latter part of my career I was grateful that, having retired, I could now move over to the Darkside and use something that really works, e.g. I can copy something on my iPhone or any of my Apple devices and move to another of my Apple devices and immediately paste it. Can you do that with Windows? So there is no way I’m prepared to mess about with my new MacBook and have to shell out a further £280 for an operating system and an application that will only be used for the occasional work on the bike. I might just as well visit the dealer when I need them to plug their diagnostic device into my machine.
I was also involved with IT desktop support for many years, starting with W98 onwards. I ran my own PC with W XP ( one of the best Windows operating systems IMO) for quite a few years but jumped ship in 2014, bought a desktop MAC and never looked back. I inherited my Dad's W7 32bit laptop when he passed in 2017 and I managed to instal Dealertool on that despite them saying it requires W10 64 bit to work. I also use it to run some Ham radio programming, a stand alone Toyota parts program and one or two other old programs that are years out of date and are not or ever were MAC compatible. Not wanting to run Bootcamp on the MAC I was seriously contemplating buying a budget W10 laptop to run Dealertool if the old W7 laptop wasn't suitable but I'm glad I didn't as it has lost some functionality on the new Scrambler 1200.
Glad to hear from another member who has gone over to the Darkside, I do still have my old HP laptop running W7 but it refused to accept incoming power to recharge the battery so I bought an external battery charger which I'm sure I can adapt an old battery shell to get power into the device rather than have to buy yet another battery. My Acer gaming desktop fell over before the HP laptop, both having been purchased at the same time.
Interesting, however even that would not tempt me to put Windows on my new Macbook. Out of curiosity I visited CDkeys website and could not find any version of Windows OS for sale. Can you post a link please.
This is the response I got to my query. "Thank you for reaching out to CDKeys, Unfortunately we do not yet sell operating systems on the website. " ???
My mistake, I got it via Allkeyshp https://www.allkeyshop.com/blog/en-gb/products/?search_name=windows+11 The site is https://wincdkey.com
Interesting. As well as using MS Office I also used AutoCAD during my career which for an individual was prohibitively expensive. So I now use open source software such as Libre Office, Libre CAD and FreeCAD which will read and save in the proprietary software’s default file formats. All FoC.
