I am new to the site, as I have only had the bike for a few months - but hoping I'll be a Triumph owner for a lot longer as I love the thing ... if only I can get my tyres right!

I recently put new tyres on my new, 'old' (2003) Daytona - sadly,I made a big mistake!

They got great reviews - they are Michelin 2 CTs - but their “pointy” profile make the bike feel skittish in a straight line - big time- which is pretty scary, for me anyway. And when the side winds hit, I feel as if it is like riding on black ice sometimes.

The quick turn in and the fact they literally fall into corners will, I know, be great for some (if not most) sports bike riders, but at 55 and not riding hardcore in the twisties any more, they are definitely not for me.

Can anyone recommend maybe a sports touring tyre with a rounder profile that would be more stable in the straights, even if it was harder work in the corners? Before I got the Michelins I was riding on the Diablo - the first one launched, as they were still on the bike when I bought it, but were 13 years old so they had to go! ( For the few rides I had on them, they felt fine in all fairness, just didn't fancy riding around on old, hard rubber) Maybe I should just get a new set of them as I understand they made them up until last year?

I hope someone can help me here- there's so much info and contradictory messages on line I am absolutely confused.com!

The bike has - amazingly - only down 1700 miles, so don't think it is down to anything else.

    Thanks

I use Metzelers Z8 on my Speedie which are duel compund so the centre of the tyre is excellent for durability, while the sides are a softer compound giving excellent grip on the bends in all weather.
Very predictive riding and excellent feedback

I get mine off ebay, a set for £135 delivered

I know what you mean about pointy tyres, when I got mine, they came with Maxxis Diamonds which I descrived as cone shaped, they felt weird and unpredictable although they had good reviews, I changed them to the Z8's while very quickly, even with plenty of tread left on the tyre.

Probably preaching to the converted, but do of course check air pressure, this has a major effect on handling and durability.

Thanks so much for quick reply - will check them out. Dropped air pressure slightly by about 2 front and rear on the 2CTs - no difference!
