Reading the blurb, it says it has a daytime MOT only as it "has no indicators fitted"

I thought daytime mots only came into force if it has no lights fitted? I understand no indicators being an issue at night, right enough, but have seen plenty of old vehicles with mots that could be driven at night with no indicators, but fitted with head and brake lights.

It's not a pretty bike though, is it?

Gumtree... There was an advert for a pair of Kawasaki GT550s on there a couple days back, £850 for the both, both legal, but tatty. Only 50 miles away... So I had a quick scout round to where I could rob the money from, and ten minutes later went to find the advert, and Fech me, sold already. Bummers.

Its pre 86 so if no ind are fitted shouldn't be a prob, it has lights so would have a normal MOT.

That's what I thought. If it's not fitted as standard, by age or spec, it's not testable and not required. However retro fit it, and it's got to work for mot purposes.

Still can't see why it has a daytime mot though.

If, as it says, it is MOT exempt due to its age, then ..... err ..... it doesn't need an MOT, daytime or otherwise. I did think it had to be older than that for MOT exemption though i.e. a child of the 70s or earlier! Not 100% sure on that though.
As I understand it if lights are fitted then they have to work properly for an MOT pass. This includes indicators. I don't think a bike can be failed for not having indicators, whatever its age, only if it has and they are not working correctly. No lights at all requires a 'Daylight' MOT only, and the bike is therefore illegal to be used after dark.

If I am in any way wrong I would appreciate being corrected in order to prevent problems for others. Or check with a reliable testing station.

As far as I’m aware, there’s no such thing as a daytime MOT.
There’s just the normal MOT test and any lights fitted have to work. If lights aren’t fitted then an advisory notice would be issued to state that no lighting was tested at the time.

From Carol Nash insurance, it seems to get quoted a lot...

"To qualify for a daytime MOT your bike must “have neither front nor rear position lamps, or have such lamps permanently disconnected, painted over or masked.” This applies to headlamps, position lamps and indicators. The situation with stop lamps is significantly more complicated. Machines do not need to have a stop lamp fitted if they cannot exceed 25mph, were first used before 1st January 1936 or were first used before 1st April 1986 and do not exceed 50cc. Those first used before 1st April 1986 must have a stop lamp that operates from at least one brake control and those used on or after that date must have a stop lamp operated from both brakes. There is an added if not widespread complication for bikes first used from 1st April 1986 which were approved with a stop lamp activated by one control. There were very few of these and test inspectors are instructed to fail a bike only if they are certain the stop lamp was designed to be operated by both brake controls and isn’t.

Your bike must be fitted with a rear reflector and an “audible warning device”, typically an electrical horn, which must be loud enough to be heard by another road user."

As to exemption... If its older than 40 yes, it would be tax an mot exempt, either from a recognised approved manufacture date, or registration date. But, it has to be taxed and mot'ed first, can't just drag any old heap out of the shed and put it on the road, it has to be legal first, after that if you're stupid enough you can let it degrade. Godz help you if you have a shunt though.

But, from what I could find, no indicators don't a daylight only mot make?

    Learn something new every day!
