Hi guys new here. I currently own an Africa twin dct. Beautiful bike in its own right. Does a lot well, but I’m missing the real wow fun factor. Missing shifting gears and leaning hard into turns. So my question is. Would you guys by a new 2016 thruxton s or a 2016 used thruxton r with 2500 miles for 10 grand.
Bonus if any of you have ridden the A twin or all three of these bikes, how do they compare. Any feed back would be appreciated.

    -much appreciation

Welcome Donald, personally I’d go for the Thruxton R as you’re getting the uprated suspension. Haven’t ridden one myself though so you may want to ignore me :p

Ask your dealer to sell you a R with a discount ;)

If you like to get down in the corners, you'll love the suspension on the R

Go and look at both and test ride both, the great thing about bikes is what suits one may not suit another.
I bought a new s and added suspension mods which suits me down to the ground.

I've ridden an R and bought an S, though it was my one and only impulse buy based on it's looks really. I've got an R as a loan bike today while they sort out an oil weep after replacing the r/h casing.

I can notice a clear difference on the R, but don't think I could ride it any faster on the road than the S. So for me the S was a good choice. If I keep it long term I might do what Glyn has done and look at changing out the suspension, but at my weight and riding ability it would be just for the interest of doing it and having something different as much as any real benefit I would notice on the road. To be honest, the biggest difference is the loan bike has the normal clip ons and my bike has the lower ones, that made more difference in the feel of the bike to me than anything else. I'm going to keep my lower clip ons because they suit the bike and I don't find them that bad, but even that is a bit illogical.

The R is a better equipped bike, will that make it your choice is only something you can decide.

Then there is the lovely feeling of getting a brand new bike, but that's illogical as well because of the depreciation hit.

    Both models are lovely.

Thank you so much everyone. I’m sort of leaning towards the new bike... then again an r for 10g with only 2500 moles. Hmmmmm? Ugh.

No get the new bike. Those moles will play havoc with your lawn. 2500 of them you will have no lawn left.

You really think so. Are there any issues with the 2016’s

No mate they are both great bikes. It was the Moles I was referring to. Pesky little creatures.

    Better Suspension no brainer

Does the r have better brakes, if so no brainer

I would venture to say we have all rounded a familiar corner at a normal pace and suddenly a holy shitt butt pucker moment obstacle presents itself. Where a better Suspension paid for itself. JMO.

Yes the R seems to be the model of choice these days. A bike with a few miles on is nothing these days. Some people buy them without testing them for comfort handling and for the things they want for a bike. So they just take them back and trade them. The bonus is if they have fitted any extra's that will be useful to you. But you must test the bikes take them out and have a few hours on both see how you feel. Your head will soon make the decision for you. Keep us all in the know. Three years I purchased a 1200 bonnie with 1200 / 1300 on the clock. Elderly chap purchased it and hated it took it straight. So I got a bike a grand cheaper than it should have been. But strangely after six months I didn't like it either. I traded it for the 900 Bonneville and couldn't be happier with a bike does every thing I wanted. Only thing I changed was the cans as I feel the rest is spot on. I also have my 2010 865 Bonnie and love it to pieces but did change a few bits to get it the way I wanted. And don't forget if you are buying from a dealer you got your warranty if needed which on my bike I haven't needed they are perfect in every way.
    Regards
    Joe.

This is another alternative buy the standard and add custom sprung to your weight Ohlins front and rear.
Add £1200 to the price but you have a bike tailored to you 4B0407C2-C663-46C0-BE83-8BE4F38E2C7D.jpeg

In 6-8 wks time when the shine has gone off either bike, which one would you feel happier with?

You can focus on residuals etc., but it’s a visceral thing. I think most of us would instinctively go with the R but would you?

You’ll only know that after you pull up next to the other bike and either feel great or depressed.
    I feel great:)

    Try and ride both.

I wouldn't have swapped my S for the loan bike R that I just returned if they offered it to me. There are lots of bits on the S that make it mine, and as I say I don't think I would be any faster or safer on the R, but that's just me. Also, I like to tinker so one day may change the suspension etc.. When they gave me the R I was worried that I would regret getting mine back, but didn't feel that way at all. However, whatever way you look at it the R is better equipped, and that may well make the difference for you. One thing though, mine definitely vibrates more at 3 figure speeds, is that just the different footrests?

    Cheers
