This type of device has been available within the car industry for perhaps 30 years. The device in general took a real hit when owners starting opening the magic box to what what was inside. In very many cases it was just a 50 pence resistor.

Now the market of fuel injected bikes is sufficiently large, this type of device is being pushed. Is it any good - who knows ?

What I do know is that I could spend my £100 on a new back or some farkles to personalise my bike and I would know exactly what I was getting.

@ Half Ton - Not exactly Steve. This device does not affect the ECU programming like when TTP install a new map. This device merely intervenes between the temp sensor and the ECU to modify the data which the ECU believes is coming from it. As a result the ECU thinks the air temp and or bike temp is one result, whereas the ACTUAL temps are something different.

For example : air temp actual is 20°c - modified air temp info received by ECU is 17°c - so the ECU fuels the bike for 17°c.Is this a good thing or a bad thing? I don't know, but what I do know and believe is that these devices can in no way be compared to proper fuelling runs on a dyno.

The biggest single problem I have here is that you don't know what you're buying.

With the TTP tunes that get installed in Triumph twins we know they are produced by Bonny owners first and foremost and by engineering types, not marketing men.

My advice to Mark would be to download a copy of TuneECU onto his computer and start to learn about modern electronic fuelling systems.

Or let him get one, fit it, try it and we can learn from his mistakes ;-))

Im with you on that one big lad, from what you have said would that booster plug also increase fuel consumption ?

Well they usually increase fuelling for a given throttle setting/rev range - but whether that allows you to wind the throttle back a bit I'm not sure. To put it simply, I just can't see the value in it.

No nore can I big lad,
I remember when I had a V8 yank motor and the last owner put a fuel miser on it and when I took it off it did more to the gallon, just an advertising con, could this be the same ?

Who knows mate? It's a bit like those "Cyclone" things that you put into the air inlet pipe and it is supposed to swirl the airflow and therefore give you 25% more power and 25% more mpg - or something like that ;);):confused::cool::rolleyes:

got one fitted to my cbf 600 2008 fuel injected known for stutter at low revs completely cured it and better fuel economy I was sceptical at first but it works there is a review on mcn website as well remember reading it

I just fitted my booster plug to my T120 and am very impressed with it. Power delivery at stop-start speeds is much smoother, and also with deceleration. Anyone with a pillion passenger will welcome not being headbutted anymore with the standard Bonnie's tendency to be jerky on the throttle at low speeds. The motor seems to be stronger under acceleration too. I put the temperature sensor into the air intake snorkel which seems sensible seeing as it's the temperature of the air going into the engine that is the vital issue here. Every T120 should have this thing fitted ...there's no reason not to!

Anyone using one on the T100? I'm thinking about one but would love to hear impressions from someone who has tried it

Had one on over a year on my T120 smoothed out low revs and a slight increase overall so I would recommend
Combined with an X pipe better cans and a better air filter (DNA) transformed the bike

I'm normally sceptical about these things a good example was a thing called an (ecoteck) widget gizmo,it was connected to inlet pipe and you revved engine and adjusted it and i went from 25mpg to over 28mpg,now it didn't really make more power as claimed but i can 100% verify better mpg going by on board trip computer and actual filling of tank costs (cavalier gsi2000).

I can't see the point in one of these. TuneEcu is free software and there are plenty of free maps for teh various set ups we run. All you need is a the lead and you can upload a map to your bike that is actually suitable for it, rather than use a tuning box which just richens up a map that isn't great to start with!

Sadly the latest generation Triumph ECU's are fully locked and definitely not flashable (at the moment) or TuneECU compatible.

Booster plug appears to be the only current option to richen up the fueling so there's no abrupt change when the bike switches between closed and open loop fueling as the two different AFRs between light cruise and acceleration end up more evenly matched which reduces the throttle snatch especially more pronounced in the lower gears.

I've removed all free play in my throttle grip, both left to right and fore and aft which helps but doesn't eradicate the common problem associated with a fuel map designed for emissions rather than riding.

I have just stumbled across this topic, i.e. poor low speed fueling and booster plugs. I collected T120 a few weeks ago, 2017 plate 8500 miles, and am ever so happy; except, the snatchy fueling at low revs. Makes for a less than smooth ride for pillion especially.
Now I have a Harley, 1999 carburettor, which is dreadful, but i kinda expect it to be! I call it character. But a modern fuel injected engine I thought it would be smoother, and mostly it is. I did mention this to the dealer when he asked how I am getting on with the bike, they did not respond to this point.
I have the bike booked in (with a Triumph dealership) to have the Cat x-pipe removed, when I understand they will re-map the engine ECU too. I wonder if that will help?
Also, talk in some threads of a booster plug invalidating warranty?
Any further thoughts on this topic appreciated. I will update when I know more following the Cat x-pipe replacement in couple of weeks.
