Hi all I just had a tail tidy or fender removal at triumph . I’ve now ended up with a tail longer than before , is there a way to shorten it ?
Hi Pablo and welcome mate. Yeah, it's easily shortened and is designed to be. The full design meets UK MOT requirements to have a number plate light. To shorten it, take it apart (easily done), unscrew and remove the middle bit of the three parts, then there is an indented section at the top of the bit you're putting back on that needs cutting/grinding down. Then you reattach the bottom part with the number plate holder - I think you have to drill a couple of holes. It's no big deal. Our workshop techs do it to pretty much every tail tidy we fit.
Sure, call me at Pure Triumph in Woburn on 01525 292490. Leave it till after Tuesday as I'll be tied up in meetings. I'll grab a kit and talk you through it. If you're anywhere near Woburn pop over and I'll show you.
Thanks everyone . It was done at triumph and is a genuine part , they said it’s as high as it goes . I don’t really want to go aftermarket parts to achieve the look.
They don't know what they are talking about. If you're anywhere near Woburn or Wellingborough bring your bike to us in future.
@Pablo 540 Check out the Man Cave's video on how he's done it. At the beginning he explains the simple solution most people go for, then he shows you what he did to shorten it even further.
Pablo, check out this video which shows you how to do it. It really is a simple job. This on a Street Twin.
So he basically does away with the bottom bit and screws the plate to the bit of plastic that’s visible on my photo. ? Do I really need a number plate light ?
Number plate light is not needed to pass an MOT. Depending on the tester you might get an advisory such as "light not fitted at time of test, do not use at night or in poor visibility". If it was a legal requirement loads of 125's and mopeds would fail every year.
If there are two reg plate lamps and one is not working that is a “minor” defect, vehicle will pass. If there is one reg plate lamp and it’s not working that is a “major” defect, vehicle won’t pass.
