I've got a 2012 Bonnie and fitting the seat has always been a right pain, when I had the standard seat it would take quite a bit of wiggling to remove it and getting the front tab and the 2 hook brackets to all align to refit it would take much pushing, removing, refitting, swearing and sweating to get it to fit right. I did wonder if it was the seat that was wrong so I bought a skinny seat from Motone and that was also a pain to fit but I now discover I can't get it off, it seems to be stuck on those 2 centre hooks and it's not budging. Has anyone else had these issues or is it just something to do with my bike? Also has anyone got any suggestions to remove the seat without breaking anything?
I will point out here that I have contacted Sam at Motone and he seemed quite surprised by this, also I have bought loads of bits from him before and everything has fitted and functioned perfectly so I'm inclined to think if there is an issue it's to do with the bike and not the seat. Whatever though I'm a bit baffled at the mo.

Never had any problems with my 2010. Can you get some plus gas in there around the area then try to get a strap under there and try to hoist the seat a little. They did a conversion for the earlier seats to convert them to cable. I had one but never fitted it think i gave it to a mate.
    Joe.

I wonder if the 2010 seat was different to the 2012, mines held on with 2 bolts at the back and should just slide backwards then lift off, I can't see where a cable release might go.

Sounds as if the brackets on your bike are fractionally lower than they should be. To get the seat off can you push down hard on the seat above the brackets. To prevent it happening again remove the hooks on the seat and put a washer between the hooks and seat.

Good luck with getting your seat off and fixing the problem.

I have a 2015 Bonneville, the seat fixing arrangement is cheap and nasty.
As has been said before, blatant cost cutting by the factory.
To be honest, it's the worst arrangement on any of the 20 or so bikes I've ever owned, I put up with it because I am very happy with the rest of the bike, but for a few extra quid this could, and should have had a proper job done right from the start.

I did eventually get the seat off but it involved being a bit brutal with an old style flat tyre lever! No damage was incurred to anything but I will be modifying those seat brackets before it goes back on. I did have a chat with a mate who's a bike mechanic and an ex Bonneville owner and he's noticed that while his seat went on and off easily even with the standard seat mine is a right pain to fit, he has also noticed that customers' bikes can be pretty variable too so we're wondering if the frames are built in a jig but that crossmember where the 2 middle seat hooks go is just dropped in place and welded so can be a bit variable? We can't think of any other reason why there should be so much difference

I've got a 2017 Bonnie which had a stock seat when I bought it, terrible seat IMO. Replaced it with the brown ribbed aftermarket seat alluded to in this thread which was an enormous improvement in terms of both comfort and esthetics, again JMO. I DID experience a problem fitting the comfort seat to the 'clasp' for want of a better term because the rear hook didn't reach down far enough to engage the rear clasp, ended up raising the clasp a bit with a wood shim which worked like a charm!

Nice work Dave, can't beat a bit of joinery on the bike!

Thanks Curly, just glad it was a fairly easy fix. As we all know just because it says 'Triumph' on a part doesn't mean the designers up and down the food chain are on the same page.
