Featured Sprint Bl**dy Mirrors

    Very happy with my 2016 Sprint GT. Had to replace front indicator bulb. According to manual, remove two screws at bottom of mirror/indicator housing to remove mirror and access bulb. What an absolute b*stard. The screws were not going to come out. I soaked them overnight in WD40 and had another go. Of course, ended up rounding out the crosshead and that was that. I had to drill them out. Tried a left hand drill, but this didn't do it and ended up damaging part of the housing. I took off the other mirror assembly and exactly the same. The screws were more than corroded in the well nuts, but seem to have started to cold weld themselves in. Anyway, the reason for my post is this. If you have the same, the best solution is to use a big enough drill bit to break off the head, then gently prise the mirror out of the housing. Once out, you can get some mole-grips on what's left of the screw and gently ease out. Even that was a palaver. I didn't do this on the first screw and ended up drilling out the whole screw plus well-nut. I am going to have to araldite in a new one.

    I have no idea why this had happened, but just thought I would share it. Shouldn't be like this just to change an indicator bulb.

    + 1 on the impact driver saves a lot of hassle with those chocolate screws they use, also it would be nice if manufacturers used grease where it's needed and anti seize on fasteners, but that must cost too much.

    Learn finesse! You can apply torque without it camming out with light taps......just lightly twist before striking.

    I wonder on they reduced the quality of the fasteners.

    Just had the mirrors off my 2009 for the first time and although tight, the screws came out no problem on both sides.

    Does your bike live outside?

    no - it's garaged. The fell I bought it off kept it in a shed, which was damp, so that may be it. They were really corroded in - like cold welding. They are only M4, but they needed the mole grips on the broken shaft to get them out.

    Little tip i learnt some time ago is never just try to unscrew always just give them a little nip up to crack the seal and they unscrew just lovely.
