I'm planning a long weekend in January biking in Tenerife.
    Any suggestions/tips?
How good is the protective gear the motorbike hiring companies provide?

y advice is “be prepared for all weather and take appropriate gear” I know that it should be a nice, temperate climate, but for my week there the weather was mainly crap...cold and wet. Freak conditions meant that the locals had had to dig out their long forgotten winter coats, scarves and hats! Also, remember that it will always be cold up in the mountains.

All that aside, the riding was great and when the sun did come out it was glorious. I took all my riding gear out there and had covered all bases.

We go to Tenerife wuite often and always hire a couple of bikes. The local bike hire place we use is called Topacio in Adeje. They will supply helmets, but we take our own. They dont do leathers etc, but it depends on the type of riding you intend to do and your own preference for whether necessary or not. Loads ride without gear.
There is an outfit called Tenerife on a Triumph that rent out nice bikes and all the gear and will also take you on guided tours (although it is pretty easy to self navigate using the map they give you at the airport). Bit more pricy though.
