Hi all, I have a Triumph Speed Twin that I love and ride all year although when I used it this week I noticed the engine didn't start first time and the clock reset - I reckon the cold got to the battery (though my wife's Scrambler was fine)!

I keep my bike outdoors all year round under an Oxford cover as we do not have a garage or storage space.

We have a plug in the garden for car cleaning and stuff so I was thinking about an optimiser for the battery and looking at the Triumph branded Optimate 3 or 3+ - are these good for outdoor use to help the battery in between rides through the cold weather or do I need to look at a different outdoor solution?

I'm a newbie to much of this so any help appreciated.

    Hi there!
I was living in london and had an old cbr600 on a battery tender outside.
However, I had it in a plastic bag (loosely) with a couple of cable ties and it was fine.
I did buy some extension cables (so it would reach) and wrapped them up in bags too.
Just remember that water drains down!

I used to keep my bike under a so-called waterproof cover but moisture used to get underneath it. If it’s a semi-permanent solution you need then maybe get a plastic box with a lid to keep the damp out with just a couple of small ventilation holes.

If it's close enough to the plug then think about positioning the optimiser on the seat under your bike cover, that way it's all weatherproofed  I would go for the Optimiser 4 though as it's the latest version and the price difference is negligible. Don't worry about it being Triumph branded, it doesn't make it any better ;)
