My all time hero and icon that turned a generation on to bikes & racing would have celebrated his 70th birthday today.
If there is an after life I guess he'll be tearing it up round a track with his mates!

Bless you Barry, thanks for the great memories of a time when racers truly were charismatic gods riding bloody fire breathing monsters with feck all rider aids!

I reckon he would still be winning if he was still with us. A true legend.

Being a Yorkshireman I was always more of a Mick Grant fan than of that cocky Southerner Sheene, but you can't take anything away from the guy. When you placed him on a motorcycle he was a genius. I found out later on he was a really nice bloke too. He turned up at a party thrown at a sidecar racing buddies house in the mid 80's. We had a long chat about life, bikes were hardly mentioned, it wasn't long afterwards he went off to Australia. RIP Barry

Me and barry sheene in 1977 at the race of aces in snett.
I used to live 3 miles away from him and my dad's first sidecar engine was his heron prepped gt750 kettle engine.
Only thing I really remember about his house was that he has gold taps in his bathroom!
And, we were both born on sep 11th!
