    Hi All,

I'm planning a trip to Alicante in May this year, doing 4 days riding to get there, 5 days lazing round the pool and 4 days back.

I'm after any advice on routes I can get, looking at Google maps there's several routes. Ideally we want one route down and a different route back so we can see more. Obviously we don't want motorways but happy to do some if needs must.

For the route down I was thinking to go via Toulouse and across the Pyrenees on the east side, then coming back Pyrenees on the west side via Bordeaux. I reckon 300 - 350 miles a day travelling.

Anyone got any advice or travelled these (or any other) routes down that way?
We will need places to stay for the three nights there and back, nothing too expensive but we won't be taking camping gear (I'm too old for all that!)

    Thanks in advance.
    Andy.

    Sounds amazing!
I've not got any biking experience in Spain but I've driven a car there a fair bit and everytime I do I wish I was on a bike. Motorways are boring as hell and most of the A/B roads are well maintained from what I found.
While in Alicante you should try head up to Guadalest. It's an old monastery up in the mountains but the roads were fantastic last time I drove up there. Something like this would be a good option: https://goo.gl/maps/fUoD3Hz1i3B2

Yes, great idea. I have ridden in France and enjoyed it and been to Spain may times thinking I wish I had my bike with me. Keep us posted with your plans ?

My only advice would be to make sure you book your hotels for this year (2019) or you may be very disappointed :joy::joy:

    Hi Andy
For the last two years I have done a three week trip around Spain on my scooter (Honda Forza 300) and have routed Portsmouth to Bilbao ferry to get there and returned Via Santander to Portsmouth.
This year, in fact in six weeks time I will be doing another three week trip on my T120 and going through France this time. Portsmouth to St.Malo then one nights stay near Bordeaux and off to Spain the next morning.
    Route is below.
Two tips I can give you.
    1) It is best (and cheaper) to book all of your hotels before you go.
    2) Keep a very careful eye on your fuel, especially if you are going off the beaten track.
    Enjoy your trip!

My advice would be to skip France and take the ferry to Santander or Bilbao. The extra cost is offset by fuel, peages, fresh buttocks and more time on fun routes off the beaten track. Spain is great enough on its own. France, if you are not touring, is a long grind across country.
