ok time has come the TBird needs anew battery.
Any one got any recommendations on type of battery and where to buy from?
TBird 1600 with Triumph alarm and mobiliser fitted.
Done all the usual tests and definitely the battery is shot, just not holding a charge.

Gary, where you park up your bike - can you get an electrical supply to it so you can leave the battery on a tender, when not in use ?

No sadly, I park it on the street no garage otherwise I would plug my optimate in.
I think the battery is more due to it being the original one and getting old.
Charging etc is fine just not holding a charge that well now.

Go for a Lithium Battery. @ least three reason's to go for one . 1st lighter weight and smaller for the same capacity ! 2nd holds fully charged condition for twice/three times as long as lead acid ! 3rd little to no possibility of terminals corroding ! There are probably more, I have one on my America for 6 months now, works great no need for optimate or such, and there's at least 30 starts/cranking engine over in one full charge !
I had been experiencing starting problems (ecu cutting engine) if it occurred I just kept cranking until fire up !

    Cheers capt.

Lithium and Gel batteries I know very little about :)
My experience of them are in my phones and 2/70 handie.
Big difference to their use and usage as they aren't having to turn over a couple of great big lumps of metal to start my engine ( ok via the starter motor but you know what I mean :) )
With the older technologies for batteries I'm well aware of CCA and A/hrs etc.
From what I've seen on the internet so far this information doesn't seem to be available for Lithium and Gel.
Also are those type fine with the likes of an optimate charging them if needed or do they need a specific charger?
So what are good makes of those batteries?
Certainly I have nothing against using a newer technology if there is a positive side to it :)

Like Gary, I was going to ask about the charging as I have a standard optimate charger and will it be compatible ?
Pricing the Lithium batteries up for my Bonnie EFI they are £200.99 which is not cheap compared to Yuasa lead/acid at £55
If it stops me having to bump start the bugger in winter I will pay it!

Likewise if they are more reliable then I too will quite happily pay the extra.
It's just knowing what a good make is. The optimate I have is the 4 series one, which came with a Hella plug for plugging it into the bike which is handy.

    Hi Gary,
I wouldn't go so far as saying I will 'happily' pay the extra, but I know what you mean. ;)

I could have said it better. At the end of the day I would be willing to pay a bit extra.
Just don't know anything about those types of battery.
I can get a Yasua for about £90 for the bike but if a gel/lithium is really a better battery then yes I would pay the extra.
Never needed to bother about these different types in years past ......

No me neither, the bikes were sensibly equipped with kick starts!

LOL I remember the CB400/4 kickstart, prone to kicking back! Gave me many a bruised shin

As long as it got the bike started! lol
A good quality pair of boots were always recommended,I must say I never suffered any injury using kick starts.
Greatest challenge was my mates Panther 600 single, but it did have a de-compression lever
