He's bought a Gladstone No. 1 - one of those hand-built exclusive jobs from Henry Cole's company.
He's been waiting ages - delays in getting the paperwork through mainly as it's single vehicle approval.
He's promised that we'll both go and get it but it never happened 'cos when it was ready he wasn't here.
Finally he arranged to have it delivered to his house yesterday.
I get a phone call at 10.45 to say that it will be delivered for 11.30 so can I go over and meet them as he won't be there!
So, I got to take delivery of the bike and take it for a test ride - sometimes life is really hard!

At it's heart is a Blueprint T140 Bonneville engine - the pipes and frame are by Metisse.

Kick start only, Amal carb but no choke, no indicators, no mirrors, no neutral warning light, no rear suspension, no silencers!
Limited to 50mph whilst running in but what a noise!:cool:

    Around the £30 grand mark?
But one of those that could be an investment as well.
Very limited production. It's meant to have its production number on it somewhere.

Each to their own. I can really appreciate the craft but it is a heck of a price to pay for old technology to convey you to the pub for a few pints of near beer and return home clear headed. I am also sceptical of its investment value in less than two lifetimes........Henry likes a fat profit!

Besides, they have ruined it by fitting an o-ring chain!

Yes there will only ever be 9 built so it will always have exclusivity. Guy told me that they will not sell to anyone who is not a genuine biker. Have turned down big cash offers from investors who simply want to keep and display them.

Surprisingly well - engine us tight as a drum and the gearbox even more so but very comfortable for someone of my height and build not sure if it would suit a really tall rider though. Very light and agile and obviously will accelerate well once run in. Cornered well but took a bit of getting used too. The bonneville felt very heavy and fat after riding it!

No he stays well out of it apparently - just writes the cheques! It was designed by Guy (he sometimes appears on Shed and Buried) who hand crafts much of it whilst Matisse build the frame and exhausts and the engine and gearbox are built by a specialist firm in London.

It can pass the MOT with those pipes as each one has sinless vehicle approval. It has a big yellow plate for the MOT aswell

Yep.. Now thats a bike.

Just love the rope springs under the saddle, not seen anything as pretty, don't fancy cleaning it though. I'm lying, I could sit with a rag and clean that all day.
