    Hi
I am taking a giant leap in to the past on Wednesday and will be collecting my 2001 955i. I am used to newer bikes but just liked the look and feel of the 955i. My biggest bike so far has been the Yamaha Fazer FZ1(2010) . I had a street triple about three years ago but found the wind buffering too much on the open road.
I am very much looking forward to collecting the bike but I do have worries as if I have done the right thing. Is there anything really bad with this great looking bike? or anything to look out for?
    Regards

    Ian

    Hi Ian and welcome!
Like many other bikes these days, the Achilles heel on these bikes (Daytona??) tends to be the reg/rec and, if you are really unlucky, the stator. Mine (2002 Daytona 955i CE) did both!! DO NOT USE GENUINE TRIUMPH PARTS AS REPLACEMENTS!! They cost an arm and a leg. I used Electrexworld components, which cost about £200 less (and fitted by a Triumph dealer!) than Triumph's own bits without fitting!!
They may have already been replaced, so nowt to worry about! They may not fail - not all do!
Enjoy!! 'Tis a cracking bike - wish I still had mine!

Tanks Steve , the bike has an outstanding recall on it for a fuel sensor and fuel line clips to be changed. At present the low fuel light is constantly on along with the engine management light but triumph has said that this will be rectified when the bike goes in for the recall. They also say it is perfectly safe to ride. At present the bike makes a kind of beeping noise on turning the ignition on, I have been told that this is priming the fuel, it is also very slow turn over on starting, but touch wood it starts first time every time.

EM light usually acts normally after 3 cold>hot>cold cycles, but will hopefully be ok after being 'seen to' by the dealer. :)

They should also confirm the noise when the ignition is turned on is indeed the fuel pump priming (it will be). Mine used to whine a bit!

Make sure your battery is/stays in good condition, as most starter sprag clutches, on most bikes, are vulnerable to weak batteries.:eek::(
