    Hi,

I have 3400 miles on my street triple 765R and just noticed this morning that there is a grinding/sandy feel at the clutch lever when pulling it when the bike is in neutral and the engine is running. There is also some noise by the clutch plates.

There is no noise when the engine is not running.

I was wondering if this issue is specific to the clutch assist feature of the 765.

Different bike, Speed Triple 2018 but on mine I have noticed there is a definite "feel" coming from the engine to the clutch lever, like of you touch gear lever for down changing a bit early it feels like a grinding at the clutch lever !!?? When I got the bike I actually lubed the lever pivot as it felt like a dry pivot bearing ... I have felt it also
at other times, I assume its the vibes going up the cable some how . Never felt it before on lots of bikes I have ridden. So.. maybe a characteristic of new triumphs??

Hi Topdec, mine has covered over 5,600 miles and I have not experienced this issue, assuming it is still in warranty period get the dealer to check it out. When in the Pyrenees recently and whilst in track mode and riding hard I thought the clutch slipped slightly but soon realised this was the clutch assist kicking in.

I called the closest dealership. They told me to drop off the bike 2 Saturdays from now. If they find an issue, it would be a 2-week turnaround but should be covered by warranty.

I'm bummed out. Riding season is so short in Minnesota for this to happen. I've had 4 bikes before the 765 and never had a clutch issue other than rider-caused bad cable tension.

That's rubbish, so you ride and risk something going wrong for the next 2 weeks or resign yourself to at least 4 weeks without the bike .... and you have to drop it off!

I'm hoping for the best. I'll keep riding the bike. Maybe the grinding parts will smooth themselves out. It's just hard to not focus on the issue since I feel it every time I disengage the clutch. But I have ignore it so I can focus on what's in front of me.

I got my bike back from the dealership today. When I picked it up, the grinding feel was gone.

The technician said it was a washer in the clutch side of the engine that was positioned off-center that ended up rubbing against something else. They just re-positioned the washer and did not replace any parts.

The dealership also replaced my left-hand control due to a recall. Now I have a positive feel when engaging a turn-signal switch. That was great of them to do that.

I took the long road home and ended up riding for 60 miles, instead of 14. This bike is so much fun to ride.

Unfortunately, I did feel the problem come back while I was riding, and confirmed it when I got home....when the engine is running, with the transmission either in neutral or in gear, disengaging the clutch produces this grinding feel at the lever and a grinding noise in the clutch side of the engine.

I'll have to schedule time to get it worked on again....summer is too short for this to keep happening! Sorry for the rant.

Yes, I miss the bike already. I left it at the dealership yesterday.

I'm just thankful that the bike is under warranty.

Hi, have my street triple 765R since June last year. First had the grinding sound after 3000 km. Now, 4 visits to my dealer later and 3 mails to Triumph Benelux, still no solution. They even replaced the entire system once. As of yesterday, the grinding is also audible without using the clutch. Just can't believe it's normal. If it would be, all bikes should have it... Slowly getting to the point of selling but who would wanna buy this bike??

My bike is still in the shop. It's been almost 3 weeks. The shop said they're waiting for parts from Triumph. Your experience doesn't give me confidence that replacing parts will forever fix the issue. I'll have to make a decision next spring.

Sorry for the bad news.... Am hoping to find as many riders as possible with the same problem so that Triumph would try to find a solution and recall the bikes. I noticed in several forums it concerns mainly the early made 765R.

That will be good if Triumph can support the affected customers by issuing a recall. If the problem happens again, you can count on me to sign a petition letter to Triumph.

According to the shop, the design of where this washer that is rubbing is just not ideal. This is why the problem keeps coming back.

When you say that the problem seems to only be in early 765R, why is it that when they replaced your whole clutch assembly, the problem still came back?

Hi, you are absolutely right, IF they replaced it... let's not assume otherwise.
Triumph benelux contacted me today, asking me to bring the bike to the shop again... I will do it next week. If it's not fixed after, i am selling the bike i had been waiting for for years and it will have been my first and last triumph

I should be getting my bike back from the shop either today or tomorrow.

The tech director, who also happens to be my track instructor back in 2007, said they are hopeful that the new parts from Triumph will fix this rubbing issue...I'm hopeful too. It's been 4 weeks since I left my bike with them for this 2nd time.

I'm looking forward to putting a few hundred miles on the bike this weekend during a group ride.

Hopefully things work out for you either way, now that the grinding is gone.

I didn't get my bike today. I'm going to have to go on this ride tomorrow https://iargmn.com/event/2018-fall-flood-run/ on my 2003 R6. My back will probably give up on me after a few hours, and I'll be out-of-place among cruisers.

I got the bike back this evening. I didn't feel any grinding at the lever. I haven't heard the grinding noise from the clutch either.

I'll ride a hundred miles when it clears up this weekend and let you guys know how it goes...fingers crossed.

40+ miles and the problem hasn't come back. My weekend ride was cut short. I wasn't wearing my gauntlet gloves and a bee/wasp got into my jacket and stung me...what bad luck.

I'm out of town at the moment but looking forward to spend an afternoon riding this weekend...hoping for the best.
