I have just bought a Speed triple, the sales person said something a bit odd, I should of queried it a bit more, but was in a rush to get going!. They asked if I could cover the first 500 miles within a month of ownership, "as they like to get it out the way" I can't work out why this would be? any ideas?

they want to get your 500mile service out of the way in the cold months and before the rush to service all the bikes for the summer, would be me guess.:)

You should have made a deal with them, half the price if you bring her in 2 weeks :D

Yeah - likely what jtd said.
I negotiated a free 500 mile service when buying the T120 last August and they were surprised when I booked it just a week after collection lol

Their logic may be that if anything is going to go wrong it would happen within the first 500 miles ???

Or maybe get it done quickly before any corrosion sets in?!! Not that the new speed triple has that problem I hope

well whatever their reasoning I better get my arse into gear and use it, I did the 22 miles home on saturday and slung it in the garage :) it was bloody cold o_O. I have ordered a load of FS365 scottoiler, to coat it with so get that on then take on the salt coated roads :D at the incredibly slow running in speeds.

Booked mine at time of pick up. Had em smashed in less than a week. Weather better than it is now though.

I thought the 500 mile service was free anyhow, maybe triumph subserdise it within a period?

  12. Personally I wouldn't care less, it's not their choice and I wouldn't be riding it when there is salt on the roads wet or dry. I think Triumph subsidise the first service and the dealer makes no money out of it and want to do it while the work shop is empty. That's fine if it suits you but tough-luck to them if it doesn't. It's your bike that you've bought with your hard earned cash, do exactly what suits you.:)

It's been quite a few years since i bought a new bike, but I'm sure the 500 mile service used to be free, and you didn't have to pay for oil and filter either?..or maybe you had to negotiate that when buying the bike:confused:

I have had two new Triumphs in the last three years and both were free labour, only had to pay for oil & filter. I bought first bike in the December and found it a pain to run indue to the weather. Bought the Speedie in June, much better :)

just picked up a newchurch, been standing 20 months but only had 5MILES on the clock, when I went to book it in for a 500mile service they said it should have been done WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH because the running in oil is piss thin and needs removing asap.so now with 320mls on I am going to service it myself especially as I wouldn't trust my local dealer to put petrol in it.

there is a dealer near you that begins with "P" that contacts my friend Clive Wood when they have problems. Strange that?

Agreed. I bought my Street Twin in November last year and I've only just got it booked in for its 500 service. It is the first time ever that it has taken me months to run in a bike, I normally get i done in days.....

It's quite simple really, and is irrespective of time of year. Asked to clarify the confusion among the bewildered and befuddled TTF membership an official spokesperson* is quoted as saying, 'For warranty purposes your bike needs to have it's first '500 mile' service when it reaches 500 miles, or at the end of one month on the road [one month from leaving the dealership in other words] if fewer than 500 miles have been covered. You can probably get away with up to 800 miles and no longer than three months, but your warranty could be invalidated otherwise. If carried out by the supplying dealership then you only pay for parts - labour is covered by Triumph.'
